CROMERTY SHORE REBUILT
« on: September 20, 2006, 09:55:58 am »

My thanks must go to Daryl Dobbs for the photo's he sent me that has enabled me to rebuild the above vessel.

The model was purchased for me by my wife some 20 years ago from a local model shop and was in need of some repair.

I have now completed the rebuild, less the motor and radio control items, which are currently being worked on.

Please find below a photo the the rebuilt craft.

Best Regards to all

Tony Dalton

Nice picture, you did a fantastic job of re-building her. We found she is a joy to sail. Thanks for posting a picture very well done. Glad to be of help.

Anthony,

Oh dear, I hate to tell you this after all your efforts but...... the name should be spelled Cromarty Shore.

Hi BoB,

its not the HFM but the PBM version, My son built one over the christmas and found it avery good kit which sails well. Ebay can come in useful at times. I think Tony did a fantastic resoration job.

Daryl,

HFM or PBM, the owners, Offshore Marine, only ever spelled it "Cromarty"! Sister to Lundy, Baffin and Shetland etc.

Hi Barry

There were four 'Weather class' ORSV, the hull was also used for the Cathedral class ORSV designed by a guy in the IOW. I have received several e-mails from one of the skippers Bruce Walls of Cromarty Shore or however it is spelt. The other sisters were Lundy Shore, Fasnet Shore and Forties Shore.

Two of them are stationed in the gulf of Oman and two where converted to offshore dive vessells currently working in the far east, all of which has had several changes of name and ownership. The kit is without a doupt a PBM one as my son has just completed one and Tony sent me pictures before he started restoration.

Hopefully if this works is a copy of a e-mail (see ORSV.doc link) from Bruce Walls outlining the history of the class.

Daryl,

I think you're missing my point. I spent 33 years both seagoing and in management of vessels operating in the North Sea thus the history of Offshore Marine and their vessels is not unfamiliar to me. Nor was my point in respect of whether this was a HFM or PBM kit. It was simply that the name of this PSV (I cannot remember that we ever referred to any vessel as an ORSV then and it's not a term in common use now!) should be spelled C-R-O-M-A-R-T-Y.  (I know - I chartered her.) If you want to check the spelling, look at a map of Scotland.

Regards

I've got pictures of all four of them in service from the collection of Bruce Walls who skipperd all of them, which helped my son in building his version. I have never seen the HFM kit but Tony's and ours is the PBM version. The pictures I have is spelt as you say Chromarty Shore but it did have several name changes as outlined in the attachment to my last post. The abreviation ORSV is reffered to in several Offshore Marine publication I have so they must have used it. I have found Bruce Walls very helpful and freely shared is photo collection and memoiries with me.

PBM had accsess to Forties Shore for 1 week to photo and measure, as a thank you the staff and crew were all given free kits. All four of the class differed slightly from each other.

its a pity this kit is not available as my son enjoyed building her and I enjoy reasurching the history of this class.

The decals used by Tony and my son were supplied in the kit by PBM. We found them brittle which is not surprising but usable.

Gentleman, with reference too the spelling of 'CROMARTY SHORE' the miss-spelling is my mistake, This therefore gives me a little work to correct the situation.

With regard to the transfers, the one's on my vessel are all new, as the craft was completely repainted. They were made using 'TMC Clear Decal Inkjet paper' which I obtained from The Model Catalogue.

Hope this clears up a few points

Best Regards to all
