Tug "Amsterdam"
« on: January 07, 2009, 07:42:58 pm »

Hello everybody,
I finally finished my "Amsterdam." Actually, I am still waiting for the sound module (RAM82) and I have to add more ballast. The later has to wait until spring because all the lakes are frozen in my area. Nevertheless, I took some pictures to show you my new tug. I still haven't made up my mind about the next build.

Hi Wilhelm,
Well done, you have made a excellent job of your Amsterdam. I'm sure she will sail well once your ponds thaw out in the spring.
Best Wishes

A great looking model of the Amsterdam. Our lakes are also frozen at this time. I notice from your e-mail it is .ca.  Oldiron and myself are both about an 120 kl. north east of Toronto. Where are you located in Canada.

Hi ggeorge,

as a matter of fact I live not to far away from you guys, about 120 km west-north-west of Toronto, in the little town of Mount Forest (half way between OwenSound and Guelph). Anyway, great to hear from fellow Canadians. You can contact me also via email.

Hi Bob
and thanks for the information. I did equip the Amsterdam with a bow thruster, hopefully this will give some additional control. You can see the thruster in my post "Amsterdam tug status." Nevertheless I will research it a little more and look forward to hear about your experience with the steerable kort nozzle.

Thanks HULLTOM,
in the meantime I did add the sound module (sounds great), two small Wijsmuller logos on the superstructure and two extra lights for the aft deck. That's it for now!

Thanks again for your nice comment.

Wilhelm

Where did you get the Wijsmuller logos? I've been looking for some for my Amsterdam.

Hello John,
I copied the logo from the internet and made multiple printouts onto thin photo paper. Cut them out with a sharp knife and rounded the edges with fine sand paper. I took clear packaging tape and stuck the logos face down on the tape. I left an edge of about two mm all around the logo and mounted it. That's it. I think it looks okay. If you don't have a copy of the logo I can email it.

Hi Bob,
sorry to hear that, but ...... happens. Good luck rebuilding the superstructure. Do you still have the plans? If not, I can make a copy and send them to you.

I did have a little problem with my sound module and the water pump. Everytime I started the pump the sound module came on. Apparently the Graupner pump creates a lot of noise the RAM 82 did not like. I tried different setups for the noise suppresion but no success. Finally, using shielded cable for the module input did the trick. Small problem compare what happened to your Amsterdam.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.
John, I wish you good luck with your Maggie M, it is a beautiful model.  I still haven't made a decision on my next build. The "Gry Maritha" would be high on my list but Slipway doesn't make it anymore. There is a store in the US who has one, but they want additional money for it because it is the last one.
