USS Whitehall
« on: August 13, 2008, 08:04:13 pm »

My wife bought be a present last year when she was in US, she bought the USS Whitehall from Dumas. Not a ship I would have chosen but ok, I might as well get started with the build now.
I plan to put in some creazy wild brushless and some Lipo cells to give it a nice shot  {-)

Hired two people to build it for me, so lets see how I can force them into the build

after ½ an hour they finished for today

They did some "hard" work  ;)
ahhh this kit is so easy to build, all parts are pre-cut and so fast to assemble

After precutting the hull, they put the two parts together with clips and pre-glued it with fast drying Durax

Imho the thikness of the hull is too weak, but lets see how it turn out in the end.

Had my men working a bit more today  {-)

First they cut all PVC down ....

then, then sanded the hull to make a smooth connection between the two sides

yes they earned that break before works continue  :)

now they cut both sides of the hull and sand the rest

hull finished. Think i'm satisfied with the result, its not perfect but can't make it better without using filler.

Some basic parts must be glued together, all very simple task to do

Done for today

Made a few more tasks yesterday.

Cut and prepared the side support for the deck and glued it to the hull.

Bought several parts from the hobby store today. Propeller, RC reciever, brass bell and other fittings and a rudder from Robbe.
Still haven't found the right motor for the ship and still haven't decided if it should be a speed 400 or a brushless motor

Aye, come on....Not seen a single cup of tea around!!!!!

You will have the unions on your back and could end up with a strike, which would spoil the thread... :D :D

Deck glued to the hull. Later my men needs to fill the gap with some plastic filler to make a smooth connection between the two parts.

The middle section glued with epoxy resin. on top of the middle section the will come a 2nd. removable deck.

Used a lot of clips to ensure a close and tihght connection between the middle section and the hull.

after a small strike, we solved the problem with salery and holydays agreements. So both are back on work again  :D

Captain has chosen the rudder....

and my employee has glued it into position. Think we need some additional plates on the rudder to improve the stabilisation on the rudder.

Yes. get the labourer to epoxy a nice thick piece of wood over the top of the rudder post. It will only take him a short time so not much extra in wages...Brilliant amigo.

Today my workers managed to get a huge step forward in the build :)

Testing the rudder

Deck is loosely placed on the hull

After a quick cut, it only takes a few minuttes to assemble the superstructure

Plates is glued on the side of the superstructure

Next part is assembled the same way

End for today.....workers starts to complain again. Banned the union representative to get involved in the internal crises  :D

What happened to the build. Did 3F get involved and demanded better wages and working conditions?

Just a tip but on the last photos with the laser cut wood; you might want to sand off the burns as this can weaken the joint as it effectivly seals the wood, preventing the glue from penetrating into it.
