Political correctness does have it place and I personally think it's made huge changes in society for the good but it's the nanny state, the "do gooders", the people looking for problems in others, the newspapers 'mountain out of molehill', council jobs worth, types that really get my goat.

Sorry you wont be surprised that I disagree.
How can any system that includes the "Way it is taken" as opposed to intent be workable.
What is acceptable to 1 person can (in theory) lead to a Jail Sentence from another.

Very true DieselDo . I should have said I accept the good things in society that political correctness has achieved
but not all of it is good and some people are just over the top and are out to make trouble. I choose to believe the
HRH Harry was (is) very naive using inappropriate language (culture? home life? army mentality?) and didn't mean
it as it sounded. ... Mind you, he is his grandfather, boy... disregarding FLJ comment previously! Reply #32

HISTORY OR PC LUNACY
« Reply #56 on: January 14, 2009, 03:31:24 pm »

I'm appalled to see that Regiment's post regarding Wing Commander Guy Gibson's dog on the 'Pakistan' thread has been ***moderated*** by 'TigerTiger'.

Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar was one of the most highly decorated servicemen during World War 2 and to have his dogs name 'erased' from history as it may cause some people offence is appalling.

This is 'Political Correctness' at its VERY worst!.

I too am appalled.

This is just another in a long line of posts being moderated due to certain peoples beleifs about what is right.

Unfortunately there are certain people around like this everywhere, who are sensitive to everything. This is why last year I had to have my parents sign someone at our club as my legal guardian so I can continue going there.

It is sickening to think that we are allowing ourselves to live in a bubble these days. Take the bubble away, and we will all die very quickly.

I think it's you lot who are sensitive, or maybe trying it on. It's pretty obvious that people were using that thread to go one better than the person before by posting a non PC word. The thread was locked before things got out of hand as previous experience has sadly demonstrated it was likely to.

You aren't appalled at all, just trying to make it difficult for those of us who give up our time to try and help run this site. You should know better!  <*<

True, on the other hand why should we let the PC brigade tell us what to do... I'm so feed up with it, I want to live in France, where the people say what they want and not the government.. sad eh.. that I have too given up, easier to walk away than stand up to them. So who's too blame, us, or our government...

Change the Environment.. it's already started...

JohnneyBoy,

Would you run around in the street shouting out those words like a kid in the playground? No? Then why should people want to do it on here? Because they are behind a keyboard and an alias maybe? As Bob says, it's Martin you are setting up as an Aunt sally - not very brave is it?

Can't see the issue as it's all within context, the dogs name that is.. purely a historical fact. I do believe in Moderation, I know, ask Martin personally about me! This is excessive moderation. How can some one be chastised, or worse for reporting common historic knowledge.

The name was used within context, the BBC has had a number of programs with respect to the Dam Busters and the dogs name..

I'm not behind an alias.. look at my profile, you'll have no trouble in finding me.. If you wish, or if you want to speak to me, please PM me..

I stood up for a fracas, in front of my house a few years ago.. stopped a bunch of idiots from smashing up the cars in the street! I was the only person to do something about it... until plod turned up after the 3rd phone call!!

I think you are missing the point I'm making altogether. The whole thing smacks of little boys running around the playground shouting "Bum, Bum".
