In olden days (1962), most garages had a paraffin pump. I used to work in a Mobil garage selling Mobil paraffin. In cold spells, with so many homes having paraffin heaters, we sold more paraffin than petrol!

In cold spells we would add a can of paraffin to diesel tanks on the old trucks, to stop the diesel from slushing.

I used to love the smell of a paraffin heater.
