You're right Rich - that's one well made garden table  {-) {-)

The hydro looks the business and I like the 'home made' mixture controls (at least I think they are)
Pity the engines are Piccos, still it won't be on the water long  :o :o {-)

Don't let Bill see this - he'll get really upset! His hydro only has ONE engine  {-) {-)

What are the glow engines of choice these days Danny?

Seen It Danny. Just think of all them Glow plugs he is going to use. He he he. Must be a Job to get the engines to run balanced.
Your right I will stick to my Zen. Had it's second run today. after a bit of messing around getting the carb set up BINGO. It's going like the clappers . Brown pants time!
I most think about going to MK very soon to run it.

Martin - anything with a con rod that will last more than 10 minutes  ;)  big CMB's have steel rods, Picco have ally (there used to be a 'competition' alloy rod available from Aeromarine for early OPS's and Piccos but I don't think they do them now).
They seem to be OK until you open the revs above 32000  {-) {-)

Bill - if you've been on the small pond at Fairlands, you should have been able to go flat out for ......  10 or 11 FEET  {-) {-)
Get over to MK (but ask Harry nicely first!) and take a REALLY big nappy  {-) {-) ;D

No-one stood next to Bill after he opened up the hydro today, wonder why....

Greg stands by Picco's, hes never had any go bang at our lake, and he did have a Picco 21 in a 15" boat...
Might be just in races where you're throttling all the time?

Bill and Andyn,

I still have a picco 80 with an OS 91 carby that still runs sweet after 15 years in a Mig 15
Picco's are not all bad, but the original carb was rubbish...

I ran Piccos for a few years in multi (submerged drive), 21 on a gearbox and 67 direct.  The main problem I had was with the 67, and the big end rotating.
Even though I chamfered the oil holes, polished the crank pin and frequently checked for blockages, every now and then the PB big end would rotate slightly, putting the oil holes out of line - then bang! Another banana shaped conrod!  That wouldn't have been so bad but it usually left a square section of the bottom of the liner sticking out, which I had to grind away to get the liner out - thus new piston and liner required also  <:( <:(
Thinking that things MUST have changed by now, I bought a new Picco 67 and ran it last year. I think it was the second race when - you've guessed - con rod gone!
Now before you think that I'm an idiot who doesn't look after his engines (not that you would think that of course .....)  I ran a very fast Serpent (Novarossi) for 5 years, my CMB 21LS has done 4 years, my CMB 45 has done 4 years, and my CMB 80 has 2 years running! The last time I sent the 45 for a bottom end service (after 2 yrs running), Ian only replaced the needles as the rest was fine.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've not had anywhere near that longevity from Picco or (in my early days) OPS.
I may eventually run the rebuilt Picco 67, but it will only be when I've run out of other options.
Every make has it's followers so this is just my opinion.

BTW Roy, ironically, I like the Picco carbs which I can get to throttle better than CMB ones - which I think are REALLY naff!

This is what a big twin rigger should look / sound like. Twin MAC 84s setting a "straightaway" record.

And this is how a .21 engine should sound.
