Riva Rivarama
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:28:01 pm »

I have just purchased the riva rivarama static boat.I know some of you guys have converted one of these.
The boat is 36" long and 11" wide, not sure on the weight. The advice is what motors to use (i want it fast),can the original rudders, props, propshafts,be used.
Any info on best way to convert
many thanks

Mark,
You will have to see how it is constructed to see how to fit the shaft(s).

It will also depend on the weight you have to play with.

I have not had the pleasure of converting one of these particular models but I have experience of the type of boat. I suspect the prop shafts and props will not be of much use. Certainly the scale brass props will not give to the performance you want.

You need to get inside and see if there is sufficient room for everything and then think about how to get the shafts out. Come back when you have checked that out and I will offer some guidance on motors etc.   BTW can you weigh it please. Its an important consideration.

Thanks for the info, when i recieve the boat and very carefully made access to rear off it,i will post pics and the way the boat is made/prop size/weight etc,and maybe start a conversion guide.
With the advice of the good fellow members on here that is,this is the twin screw version btw

theres a bloke in my club who has converter one of these Rivas,  he has used two brushless motors with a 60A speedcontroller, it flys around the lake and looks extremely realistic with what looks like  a scale speed. do you intend using brushless or brushed motors?

I would like to go brushless, but as been mentioned before, weight is a factor, and construction,so untill i recieve the boat, and find out more details.
Then the appropriate guys can give details/size,pitch of props/motors,batteries that would suit me  :-))

Just out of interest if you can find what that guy is running Dan,would appreciate it

Have you got room to fit a Zenoha 26cc engine in it? Then it would go and sound right.

WHOOOOOOOPEEEEE !!!
Its like christmas day for me,model boat mag turned up with the bits i ordered for the swordsman.
Then this afternoon the rivarama turned up.
The boat weighs 14.1 lb or 4.7 kg
The rudders are 30mm by 40mm and can be removed quite easily
They are not real propshafts, with 30mm props(could be tricky)
I have not tried removing any deck yet to see inside, going to be a hard conversion as the propshafts
protrude quite deep into the hull. One step at a time.
Here are some pics

I am not into powerboats.

But I do have to say that the Riverama is a very beautiful model that I would be proud to own.
It does have something special about it.

Thanks Dan
This is going to be a real challenge,i managed to get the rear leather off,cut hole in wood, plenty of room for, rudders, servo, batts etc.
The probs are where the propshafts go into the hull,i have to carefully cut into the deck in the open cabin area, whereas the aquarama
has a longer rear section, long term project, and no rushing me thinks.
No it cant be me talking,i want it on the the pond NOW  :}
cheers
