Happy Chinese New Year.
« on: January 25, 2009, 11:57:46 am »

Xin Nian Kuai Le.

Well Chinese new year beckons.

Earlier this week I saw one kid of about 10 knocked out by the concussive force of one of these local 'bangers'. He let it off at the foot of a wall, and took the full back blast as well. OK the idiot was only two feet away, but it knocked him out for over a minute.

It is only meal time now (6pm here) and the smaller fireworks eruptions have begun. Some of the Pyro here is very big. There is the constant boom, boom like artillery fire across the skies. The sky is also almost constantly illuminated by flashes.

Wait until midnight. Then all hell breaks loose.

Here in Chongqing the war started a few hours ago.  We're on the 17th floor at my mother-in-law's & had some idiot above us launch a very large roman candle horizontally with the bombs going off just off our balcony.   :o

We're watching the CCTV broadcast with the dancing pandas on unicycles.  Think I'll move out into the hallway beside the elevators come 2345.  {:-{

Well it is only 11pm and it is as noisy as a full battle group on exercise in Fallingbostel or BATUS.

If you can imagine that the Lady Finger firecrackers, the size of matchsticks, are as loud as the old westwell 3-2-1 banger. Well you ban imagine what the smarties tubes are like.

Let alone the mortars the size of a 1.5 liter pop bottle.

It is relentless and not even New Year for another hour.

Well happy new year to all our Far East counterparts, keep on ducking and have the fire extinguishers at the ready!!

Please, please, please can you send me some small devises that will kill/maim the little so& so's that have thrown eggs at my house for the last 12 years (before anyone asks, no I don't do Victor Meldrew impressions every time I see a human being under the age of 20, and I am actually on good terms with the local youth, helping one of which build a model boat currently).

I promise I won't fire these projectiles at said morons, but just put them in a box marked "please help yourself, hold at arms length" I think they are stupid enough to do the rest!!.

Before you inundate me with lectures, .................I am only joking, but it's a thought that came to mind after reading TT's post of the 10 year old kid being knocked out by a banger.

Like most everything else you find here, they're fakes.  O0

The screaming mimis are flying past now & the reports of mortars in the background combined with the millions of firecrackers going off make me think the Chinese invented "shock & awe"!

My wife is laughing hysterically at the comedy skit along with the TV audience at something I certainly can't comprehend.  Now where are the keys to the bomb shelter?

Official figures like that are probably bad for morale. So not published.

But every couple of years an illegal (aren't 90%of them) fireworks factory/store goes up and kill a couple of hundred.

Some idiot downstairs just below us set off a huge roman candle / mortar that is going off just off the balcony.  I was out videotaping the action & almost got blown into the glass door!!!!!!!!!!

I need to go change my shorts now.  Will post a short video later once I have a shot or two to calm down...

Reference to the National TV show, command performance.

Did you see the astronuaghts were all carrying bunches of flowerers, grown in Space. How cool is that. They know how to upstage NASA.

Not high enough on the 17th.  Sounds as if its died off because they must have run out of ammo.

10 hours to go & I'm wheels up on my way back to my workshop & new IOM.  Can't wait!

Enjoy your Ox stew tomorrow with the family.  I'm going to hit the rack now that's quiet.

How did the gate keeper and the cats do, or were they all under a bed somewhere waiting for this to end. The puppy that I have now does not like them at all and she kind of freaks out, the Lhasa that we had before could have cared less, she just went to sleep on the couch till we came back inside ant then looked at us with look "are you idiots done cause  I want to go to sleep!"

Happy New Year
