I've recently aquired the following ship, and I am undecided as to whether to keep her for future use or to resell on and concentrate on my pilot cutters. Anyone have any thoughts on what a reasonable valuation would be for her.
The details are:
She is a 1:32 scale model of the brig "Belle Of The Clyde", which was built in 1865 and wrecked in 1874.
The hull is G.R.P. and the the 10 spars are swung by two independent winches.
There is also a motor connected to a small propeller. The motor control is connected by a servo which gives on/off and forward / reverse via microswitches and a relay.
A further servo controls the rudder.
Overall appx dimensions; height 950mm. Length 1450mm, Width 280mm.
Weight approx 13.5kg.
Masses of intricate detail, this ship was obviously crafted by an experienced builder as there is so much attention to detail.
Looking at it, I would think that with the addition of batteries and radio control it should be able to sail as is, with only possibly a bit of ballast adjustment as you would expect to trim her off. Obviously at least a four channel radio system is needed to cater for the two winches, motor and rudder controls.
For the true perfectionist you could always add even more sails.
I also have in my possession original plans and miscellaneous other information which is very interesting reading.
