Complete Airbrush Kit
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:54:28 pm »

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of getting one of these airbrush kits, they seem a bargain at the price.

Do any of you have any experience of them, i.e. is the compressor any good and are the airbrushes of any reasonable quality.

Try the link to see one:-    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=260343874181&Category=28111

Regards

Looks an absolute bargain to me. In fact it looks too good to be true which causes me to cast a detailed and cynical eye over the deal.

However, there is nothing obviously wrong.

If you go for it let us know what you find, please.

One bit of advice: keep the needles clean and when you think they are clean, clean them again! More air brushes fail from poor cleaning than anything else.

To be quite honest Roger, that was my thought,..... "its too cheap to be any good"!

Just looked again at the traders feedback.

I cannot understand how Ebay can say "100% satisfactory". OK he only had 3 negatives in 12 months with nearly 1,500 positives. But all three follow a pattern and it is a pattern I don't like.

But your not risking your life's savings are you?

The compressor alone is worth more than what he is asking.

If you have a problem PM me, I have some experience in resolving complaints as a former Trading Standards Officer!

I have the same compressor as this, bought from RDG at Leamington's Model Engineering show 2 or 3 years ago. It works fine. In fact I was looking at an illustration of an Iawata compressor the other day (on here?) and, apart from the fact that it was all shiny chrome, it looked identical. Can't comment on the brush, and I prefer a bottom feed - I just know I would spill all the paint out of the cup {-)

Having said that, the airbrush packaging looks mighty similar to the Mantua brush I got for Christmas - made in the same Chinese factory no doubt {:-{

Just noticed that you get TWO airbrushes and the hose - can't go wrong in my estimation. Just make sure you get some airbrush cleaner even if you intend to use only acrylics.

Hy Guys
I have one of these I bought last summer, I used it a few times then with no problem, I have,nt used it over this winter period as I find it to cold and damp at the moment. I did find that the water trap did trap any water residue ok, but you do have to undo the screw at the bottom to dismantle and clean it as blowing it through the air valve did,nt seem to move it at all. I am happy with it, it does what it say"s on the box no problem.

I haven't bought this item from RDG but I have bought other items from them without hassle and of reasonable/good quality.

3 negatives out of 20,000 can't be bad.

Thanks for that tip Bosun - its the only problem I've found with mine. The water clings to the sides of the trap and doesn't collect at the base. Now I know how to cure it. Thanks again.

There may be some bargains appear on ebay. Due to the recession.

Clearance lots, and importers or even manufacturers dumping stuff on the market cheap, just to try to get some cash flow.

If a trader goes and asks small suppliers for price on a job lot at the moment they may hit lucky.

If the traders are known there is less of a risk.

Just my thoughts.

I put this add up on Scale Models a couple of days ago.

http://rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/NEW_LINES_TO_RDGTOOLS.html

But you will find that RDG are not fly by nights, just buying job lots and selling them off cheap, they have been doing airbrushes and ancilliary equipment for quite a while now.

A lot of people on ebay are Joe Public and use post office, assuming it is cheaper.
DHL 48 hour Home is much cheaper, and secure. As are many other couriers.

Some people on ebay make a few extra quid on the postage.

Mail order companies often get an even better rate than Joe Public selling on ebay.

True - they have quite extensive premises in Hebden Bridge if I remember correctly. Good Yorkshire firm :-))

Excellent service from RGD in Hebden Bridge. Parcel arrived in the post yesterday morning, very well packed.

Compressor and airbrushes look and feel to very good quality, need to get some airbrush cleaner berfore testing them out, but its still far too cold up here in Caithness to do any serious spraying yet.  Average temp in the workshop is still only about 4deg C.
