Smit Nederland in 1/200 scale (Revell kit)
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:12:23 pm »

This is definitely not a R/C model, but I thought people might like to see it, seeing as there are other static model builds on this forum (such as ETV Waker), and I used the Billings kit for paint reference!  It's the Revell plastic kit in 1/200 scale. This is considered "large scale" by static ship model standards, but a small harbour tug in this scale is quite diminutive - the hull measures about 140x50mm.
It's built virtually "out of the box", painted with Revell acrylics, and weathered quite heavily. I used "Kristal Kleer" to glaze the bridge windows and portholes.

I suspect this kit is too small to be practical for micro R/C, especially as it has twin props + Korts, but you never know!

It's now on my "to RC" list. See my Revell Smit Houston thread. Nothing is too small  ok2

Looks great :-))

Hi Edward

I have just bought this model (and just joined the forum) It looks great, hoping I can come close to that!

Just one question, are you able to post a close up of the fo'c'sle? Im interested particularly in the anchor chain, as a brief scan of the instructions seems to suggest using black thread?

Thanks, and again, great model, love the weathering.

Very impressive! That's certainly micro-R/C modelling. It even has the correct twin props! Does it use twin-prop steering? There don't seem to be any rudder servos or arms visible in the interior photos.

I have one of those kits....  :-)

There is another good picture on the club website. #22

Appears to be dynamic(dual prop) steering.

Try going to this link about half way down the page for an overhead shot of the prototype SM foredeck:
