I've already mentioned to Rich in private that George's pose in the photo (reply #340) would imply an immediate need to visit such an establishment. He looks as if last night's Bangalore Phaal has just come back to haunt him. Don't forget the Vacant/Engaged lock on the door, Uggett.

Evil...you lot are evil. Poor old George, he don't know which way is up any longer. There's not room on the deck for even a Porta Pottie, so it's a case of hanging his lower parts over the side, and hoping the wind blows in the right direction.

First coat of primer on earlier this morning...blimey, that stuff stinks to high heaven. The whole flat smells like an auto body repair shop...no chance of a 'romantic interlude' this evening...

Now chaps..your advice please.

I want to fit a heat shield to the exhaust stack, but I'm having trouble. All I can come up with is a piece of alloy mesh over the pipe, but I'm not happy with how it looks...so, it's over to you. Any ideas?

How about some fine plastic mesh such as the suppliers put around onions veg etc. Hope this helps.

Why not wrap string around it paint it white to simulate rope type pipe lagging.

Aid...that the sort of thing, but they are too small, which is a shame. Unless I could combine two of them...

BC...yes, I see your idea, like the steam boys use to lag their pipework with. I suppose with the 'Flote being a real utility vessel, a fancy heat shield wouldn't be used, so maybe lagging would be an idea. I shall retreat to my bench and see what I can come up with....

I seem to remember someone using part of a lady`s hair curler for an exhaust heat shield , don't know what type. Ask the lady of the house. BTW that military armour site has some lovely stuff, thanks for the link.

, I used to work for a truck manufacturer, and the silencer usually made the best heat shield when running up the side of the cabs, some were solid, slotted or perforated, I was surprised when I saw a program and it showed the US version and as usual it was massively bigger than the UK trucks so it seems the best idea is to go what you believe looks right

now for the head shaker

just as the preverbial saying, 'when **** hits the fan', any guard will do if it stops Georges discharges hitting that hot pipe - THEN it will stink.

I'm pretty sure that an old tub like a 'Flote wouldn't be having a fancy chrome heat shield, unless George customises it and makes it into a Motorflote GT...so this is what I'm going for. I think I mentioned earlier that Ian 'liberated' it from a greenhouse he just happened to passing...as you do. It's plastic and it's perforated, so I plan to try and put a dent or two in it, spray it black, then it will have a sticker stating ''Caution--Hot'' on it.

And no, Mr Warspite sir..GT does not stand for 'George's T**D'...
