Hello, Need help with motors
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:55:27 pm »

Hi,

I have 2 large hand made passenger ferries, one is 5ft. and one is 7ft. long and i haven't got a clue what type of electric motor to put in them. They are very heavy.

Also i have no idea what i need. Batteries, servos, speed controller etc.

Any help?

Motors that myself and friends have used are car power seat motors. They can be had very cheaply, pull abut 1 amp, tons of torque and are easy to mount. Try your auto salvage yard. We get them here, at a chain called Princess Auto. They are new motors for about $6.00 each.
You can see them on ggeorge's TID Tug build: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13720.0
or on my SS Master build: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7914.0
These motors will easily power a vessel you are building. Gerry's tug uses a 4" prop, mine uses a 3 3/4" prop.
