Holiday Snaps
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:55:58 pm »

Now, lets see if I can remember how to get pictures into a post  %)
These were a Cypriot fishing boat being "serviced" on Paphos harbour "slipway" last November.  Might make a nice different prototype for a model, and a chance to go looking for Greek Letraset for doing the name....

Paphos Harbour, just by the little pepper box fort that appears in all of the brochures.

Is that a Billing Kit?

The timeshare cockroaches are a pain, but there is an even lower form of life in the form of holiday club sales.  At least with timeshare you have a few days to change your mind and get your money back because there is tangible property involved.  With a holiday club, this s not the case.  Once the money is theirs, it stays theirs and if they stop trading the day after, hard luck.  The timeshares make their money off A) a vastly inflated sense of the value of the property and B) a vastly inflated view of maintenance costs.
I did have a "free" lunch with one, and she proudly told me how "little" it would cost for a week with them for the next 50(!!) years.  When I told her how much my months half board was, she shook her head sadly and more or less admitted defeat.  We got the bottle of rather nice red and the tee shirts off her with all good grace and a taxi back to our hotel.
If you go there, watch out for the scooter cockroaches, who are more difficult for the police to move on, and the car bandits - in particular a tall lummox called James in a red VW retro beetle.
