Well, I never knew that ...............
« on: September 28, 2009, 07:26:06 am »

Needed a tiny bit of paint to touch up a spot on my hull and the aerosol can was empty.

Cut the can open (I know it says you shouldn't  ;) ) but my need was great and I did empty the gas first.

What was inside ................... not ONE but FOUR steel balls  :}

You learn something every day .

I think that IS truely amazing these days, unless it was a very old can. What can be done by 4 balls can be dne by 3 and the customer wouln't know the difference and so on. So in the company I work for it would be down to one, and the size of that would be shrinking.

I suspect you will find that, somewhere on the Asian continent, there is a paint factory where the balls are put in manually, and they pay the workers per ball.....

Did you find any paint in the tin?  Does it ALL extract with the gas ?

I opened a couple of Halfords spray tins recently to save buying another. Depending on where the tube has ended up, you may get anything up to about 1/2 cu in of paint out. But of course the paint will be very thinned - so brushing with it will tend to wash away earlier paint. You can leave it to thicken, of course, or put it in an airbrush...

Yes, quite a bit actually. The pick-up pipe is central so the paint lies around the inverted dome at the bottom. I've put it in an old 'pill' bottle and so far, its remained liquid.
