I appologise if this is Off Topic slightley.

As a matter of interest, what do you click (or whats the address for) to get the 3D look around the streets.

I can only get our street map pictured from above, so I assume it's a differrent map I'm wanting.

If I'm hearing you correctly, I think you might be refering to Google Street View (as opposed to Google Earth)?
Easily downloadable, but the novelty wears off after a nanosecond.

Ken, first click on the help button and then check for updates. Down load if any.
Having done this you should now go to the layers section in the left hand column.
Tick the box marked street view then click on the camera which will appear on your map where you want to look.
Not all the UK is covered yet.

Guess who had a good look at all the options whilst finding the "i" :-))

I don't think Danny would play with us again Richard, his sanity would be stretched tooooooo far %%

Great. Thanks everyone. No close up cameras on my place, just a street view from 'Space'

Mind you, we had a look in the major towns and the close up street views are rather detailed ??

Too right they are, Ken. I had a look at our street, and the lady in the front flat had a towel hanging over her balcony rail. We were apparently away when the photos were taken as our caravan was not there. Below is a screen capture of the shot of where we live. Ours is the rear flat with the double garage, and our caravan is usually parked against the fence on the right, near the palm trees. I'm glad I wasn't filmed holding a secret meeting to plan the overthrow of the government  {-)

You can also upload your own photos and place them in the correct position. I did that with some shots I took around here, not of our home, but the local scenery, and also some I took while in England last year.

Google released lots of new STREET VIEW maps / pictures yesterday, covering most towns and city in Britain.

Amazing technology and effort!   :o

Use Google maps to find a location, then drag the little yellow man from the scale, onto the map and release.

1. The actual pointer is the green circle under the yellow man,
2. Use the arrows on the street name line to 'walk' down the street,
3. Use your mouse wheel to zoom in,
4. Click and drag to look left, right, up, down.
5. some internet browsers may need to download an add-on.

That's quite amazing, Martin, the resolution is incredible. They picked a beautiful day for the photos, too.

I suppose it is really voyeurism in some ways, although it's very handy when you're looking for a particular address. We found it very useful looking for the cottages we had booked when last in the UK.

Notice that there are no people visible, they seem to have been removed from all the photos, I would assume for privacy reasons.

That or just nobody around as a couple I have looked at I have seen someone in the downstairs window looking at the car , and on the same road a cyclist heading towards the car..

I have found it quite interesting and nostalgic to look at the places I lived in when in the States..

I reckon that Goggle will use it as the worlds biggest billboard hoarding, eg. click on the shop, building or
company and their website will pop up... for a small fee! The whole thing must have cost millions!

Peter mentioned there are no people in the photos. I agree they seem to be in short supply, however, i just checked out my town, which appears to have been done last summer, does have people on the streets.

Strangely enough , though, by zooming in I notice some car license plates are fuzzed out and some aren't

Was just looking at Camden on streetview, how long has it been in 3D?
How much of the UK is also in 3D?
Why haven't i got any of the 3D glasses to try it out?

These are just under £6. The way 3d is going at moment a good investment.

You can get cheaper 99p on e-bay but they are the paper type from Honk Kong (may never arrive)

This looks like an Island Class cutter aka Model Slipway Sentinel at Holyhead:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=53.312109,-4.625416&spn=0,359.912109&z=14&layer=c&cbll=53.312156,-4.625574&panoid=ku6NVGXCHaAs2LTFs2lnjw&cbp=12,10.68,,1,1.48

How on earth did you find that Martin ? Thats the car park for the ferry foot passengers and the people are waiting for the shuttle bus to the ferry terminal.
