Vigilant Build
« on: February 17, 2009, 04:25:21 pm »

Hi Everyone,

Just thought you might like to see the progress I'm making on my build of the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company Salvage and Buoyage vessel "Vigilant"

I started on her about twelve months ago. She is at 1/48 scale and is plank on frame. Unfortunately the eary photos are missing due to a complete computer crash some time ago, and stupidly I didn't back any of them up.  OK Lesson learned!

The builders plans were obtained through a friend of a friend in Liverpool, I think he was involved in the scrapping of her many years ago.
A photo of the ship can be seen here :-

Progress is quite slow, but thats purely down to me, I hope to have her on the water some time next year.

Not looking forward to doing all the rigging on the heavy lift derricks!!

Anyway, comments (good or bad) as long as they're constructive would be welcome.

Appologies, but I think the photos are completely out of sequence, but I think you'll be able to sort them out!

A cracking job so far....Keep the pictures coming. Have you decided on the internal layout yet? If so what are your plans for her?

Hi Footski,

Sorry for the late reply but that four letter word "Work" got in the way,
Anyway, she's got two Combo Drills 540 motors in her, connected to the shafts by a couple of home made flexible couplings, just a couple of bits of hex brass turned up on the lathe and some car fuel pipe between them to give some flexibility.
Will probably fit an ACTion electronics ESC and combined mixer unit to the engine room. There's plenty of room for a couple of sealed lead acid batteries which will also provide a good bit of low down ballast.

That ACTion double esc and mixer unit (P94), is a real cracker. I got number one off the production line, after mithering Dave for ages. You will not regret it thats for sure..

Hi Everyone,

Thought you might like to see the progress so far:-

have just finished spraying the hull..... Halfords spray cans...   just a couple of small patches of overspray on the inside of the bulwarks.

Now I need to line it out and apply name etc before a couple of coats of varnish    :-))   :-))   :-))

Can anyone help with plans/drawings or photos of a River Mersey "Buoy" which I am thinking of adding as Deck Cargo, some indication of size would also be of great help as I've never been anywhere near one in my life!

Regards
