Vic SMEED VIVACITY 54"Motor Cruiser
« on: January 19, 2007, 01:55:44 pm »

I have the plans for a Vic Smeed motor cruiser called VIVACITY which have been rolled up in a tube for over 30 years.   They originally came from Model Maker Plans Service of 38, Clarendon Road, Watford.
The design, measured in cubits!, calls for a 34cc JAP or any 10-35cc motor or equivalent electric!!
The Keel pieces are from 1/2" x 3" pine.

He certainly knew how to build to last.
Does anyone know of a boat of this design still floating about?

I had a chap ring me last year and wanted to come and see me to see if I could identify a model boat he had discovered in a farm barn , when he arrived I took one look at the boat and said I know that it's a model called Vivacity . How do you know that he asked cos I have the plan for it I replied . I believe that it was the largest plan available for some time

The question now is did you build it?
Its the largest plan I've seen for a while.
I did start to build it at one time but it seemed to take over once I started the lofting.

I didn't think I'd get it out of the loft!

You have seen the plan so what do you think would be the best motor/motors to put in the beast?   Its certain not ever to get on the plane thats for sure....

Hi banjo,

Are you able to run I C motors where you sail?

If so you should be able to get it on the plane, assuming it's not a displacement hull. (cant tell from the picture) One of those chain saw type motors would do it.
I used to have a Chris Craft of about the same size with a JAP 34 motor in, and that got on the plane.
Not sure, but I would think an SC90 would do the job for not too much money.

Mine was used as the club rescue boat. (We did not have a dinghy) As a junior member and not very heavy, I used to remove the cabin, and sit astride the hull and go out onto the pond to recover stalled boats during regattas to save time.
Health and safety had not been invented in the sixties, and I suppose we all just assumed that if I went in I would swim.  ;D

Bob

Ps just thinking about that old boat. I sold it for 5 pounds including the motor.  :'(

Hi Guys

The plan is in the MB 1998 catalogue (the latest I've seen) as MM652. Description calls for 5 - 35cc motor or large electric power!

Bob

go for it you know you want to ;D

Cheers

Hi,

I have a Vic Smeed Vivacity 54 motor cruiser!  :) I bought it about 5 years ago, and it was quite a wreck, I fitted an electric motor in it to start with, but it didnt go very well, so I fitted a OS 20 nitro engine in it, and it still doesnt go very well, so now I am considering a large petrol engine, 20-25CC  ;D It needs another rub down, some filling and re painting now though.

I am very interested in seeing the plans for this model, is it possible to get a copy from anywhere does anyone know?  ???

nice zenoah motor will do the job doesnt have to have tuned pipe keep it simple,it will def plane then too.Strimmer motor would be good but you would then need to butcher it and water cool it.theres nice one on ebay now same as one i used in a vee and it is a good motor but would need water cooling in that hull.i put a walbro wa 167 carb on it and it reved really well i got 35 mph out of it in my vee ;).
