OOP's sorry about the mistake with the pics......I'm still trying to get the hang of this!!

I painted the hull a bit prematurely but i wanted to get the ballast secure and needed the a decent waterline to work to in the bath.

With the ballast in place I then glued in the decks and filled balwarks etc with p38 to achieve a smooth finish.

That's it so far....

Hi Dale

Coming along nicely.

Did you support the rudder tube near the top ?

If you are going to sail in anything other than a dead calm you will need to cut openings where your washport covers are or your deck will fill up with water.

You will also have to figure out how to waterproof your front hatch.

Hi Richard,

I did drill a piece of ply and fitted it over the rudder shaft with epoxy and then resin......hope this is enough {:-{

I have been wandering about the wash ports as I noticed on your's (after I had fitted my covers) that you cut them out completely.

I just followed the instructions but have realised thats probably not a good idea!! <*<

Thanks

Dale.

Thanks Dantheman :-))

To be honest I'm a bit embarrassed about showing my pics especially when I look at some of the build threads on here and see the amazing quality of the work but
I am appreciating all the comments and advice and above all it is helping me with the build.

Thanks for the photo and the advice Richard  :-))

I shall add another support at the top of the rudder.

Looking further ahead, I havn't a clue where I'm going to eventually sail her?

I am in Dorset, between Blandford and Shaftesbury, does anyone know of a club in the area or anywhere suitable for sailing.

Not sure what to do about the washports now.....anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks again

There is absolutely no reason to be embarrassed. Your build is excellent. I know there is always someone better out there, but we all have to learn and I am sure that many are learning from following your thread. Keep it up.

Hi Dale,

As Richard mentioned. I'm a North Dorset resident too, actually living in Gillingham. I belong to two clubs, Shepton Mallet Drifters and Yeovil Model Warships, they are about the nearset clubs to our area. Drifters meet at Collet Park, on the first Sunday of every month, the Yeovil Warships at Halfway House, on the A37 between Yeovil and Ilchester, with access to the water every day, any time.
Don't be put off by the name, we cater for all types of boat except ic. If you need any more information, don't be afraid to contact me via PM (personal message) Hope this helps.

Hi all,

Quick update on the build.

It has been a bit slow but progress has been made.

Have you decided not to open any washports?

Hi Dale, without any open washports open any water that gets on the deck will go straight inside through the front hatch under the fish pools.

With the washports shut you are forming a bucket to collect water.

Nice job by the way. :-))

Hi Richard,

I can see your point and think I will have to do something about opening up at least a couple of washports on both sides.

Thanks again for the advice.

PS. I have now supported the rudder tube at the top as well as the bottom as you mention earlier.

Bob,

I hope this answers your question too.

Thanks guy's

Hi Dale
I've almost finished building an Imara tug and have opened up the washports and made some decent coamings. This is very important because as someone has mentioned already unless you have adequate drainage the deck will be like a bucket with dire consequences!!
They are not hinged on my boat but fixed, leaving a gap of about 3mm which is plenty wide enough to get rid of the wet stuff.
Hope this helps

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the photo and advice......anymore pics of your Imara on the forum? :-))

I have decided that I will have to open up some of the washports, at least a couple on each side.

Being a complete novice at this I didn't even give it a thought when I started building her (no mention in the instructions)

I will probably leave it to the weekend to get the Demel in action........not looking forward to it though!! {:-{

Thanks again

Dale.

Hi Chaps,

I'll try and keep this short.
Health problems that led to some considerable financial difficulty over the last 2 years or so has meant that my Milford Star has been in storage for all that time until today.
We are now settled into a  little one bed place.... but at least it's ours.
I have been setting up a little build area and today upacked the boat etc from it's wrapping and started to get to know it again......I'd forgotten how vague the instructions are.
If it's ok with you guys I would like to continue with this blog and hopefully see it through to the end.

Dale.
