PMK, as I said, the roof will tend to obscure the view, but as the windows are quite big, the detail is still easily seen. I'd hate to think I had done all that work for it be completely hidden from sight  :D , and the acrylic used in the windows is good quality, giving a very clear view. I'll post some more photos once the cabin roof is on.

Barry, thanks for your comment, and I'll be keeping an eye out for your Craig build on that other forum.

I feel a bit of a berk for asking a question that's already been answered. Sorry 'bout that.
Anyways, keep on with the nice work. And thanks again for the neat ideas.

Senor Footskivitch:  Yeah, I know, I know. Serves me right for not reading the entire thread, eh?

Well, after more than 3 weeks touring around the country in our caravan, I am back home, and finally back in my shed  :-))

I have started work on the fly bridge, having fixed the cabin roof in place, and built the boat's tender, a scratch built RIB. I made the RIB out of pine dowel, arriving at the correct angles to cut the dowel by trial and error. The floor is styrene sheet, as are the thwarts, and the outboard motor is a wooden block with some brass rod, and brass sheet for the prop. I think that the overall effect is reasonably convincing, well - I'm happy.

The RIB is not fixed in place yet, and is just placed loosely for the photos.

Work continues on the fly bridge furniture, the RIB derrick, and other assorted items. Watch this space.

The end is nigh...well, the end of this project, anyway. Just a few finishing touches remain, namely the fly bridge wheel, the mast including the radar etc, the RIB lifting derrick and the small windows in the cabin have to be glazed. The railings are all installed and all the planking is done so, once the rest is complete, it's off to the lake.

Very nice, Peter. I wish I had your skills.

Thanks, Ken, but I followed your build of PS Waverley, and your skills far exceed mine. I do appreciate the compliment though.

BTW, great photos of yourself and your Waverley in the latest Model Boats magazine too.

Thank you also, steamboatbob, for your comment.

The Lady Catherine is finally finished,  O0 and I'm now waiting for the weather to clear to launch her on her maiden voyage. Unfortunately, I may have to wait a while, as the forecast for the next week is not good - gale force winds and heavy rains, just what we did NOT need. We have had more rain than we know what to do with, yet other parts of Australia are in severe drought. I've had her in the bath to check if ballast was needed, just a small amount at the stern and she sat nicely on the waterline. Photos below.

Thanks for the comments, gwa84 and Dan.

Dan, I stared the build last October and have just finished it. However, I did not do a lot over the Christmas period, as we had family visiting, and we were away from home for nearly 2 weeks in February, and for 3 weeks from Easter on. I did not keep a record of time spent on the build, so it's difficult to say how much time I actually spent building, but I would spend several hours a day on it whenever I could.

I will certainly take photos of it on the water once the weather clears.

I have finally got my Grand Banks in the water. The weather is OK today, so my wife and I headed over to Ballina and our boat lake, and gave the Lady Catherine her maiden voyage. I was very happy with her performance, she has a realistic turn of speed, and handled beautifully, very manoeuvrable. Unfortunately, it was overcast, and the water is still dirty from all the rain, so conditions were not ideal for photography, nevertheless, here are some we took of the "big occasion"  :-)

Thank you, one and all, for your kind comments. I was very pleased, especially with the handling. It has 2 motors, but they are not independently controlled, as the props are quite close together, like the full size boat. However, the twin rudders make her extremely responsive, and she is capable of quite tight turns, if necessary. I now need to find some suitable figures to place on the fly bridge.

Hello Peter,
excellent model, as the lines were my own interpretation were there any problems with plan, humps or bumps or misalignment etc?
best regards,
Jim

Hello Jim.

I had no problems whatsoever with your plan, no "humps, bumps or misalignment", and everything went together beautifully. As I mentioned in an email to you, my only disappointment was not being able to work out a way to accurately reproduce the simulated planking.

Whew!
thats a blessing Peter.
Drawing a model plan at comparitively at small scales without the benefit of the lines being faired on a full size scrieve boat as in full size practice  it is sometimes easy to have a small unfair shape or line. Possibly the "plank lines" could be simulated by carefully attaching thin wire or such to a plug like if making  a GRP hull in two halves.
Life's short though!

Lady Catherine had her first club outing last Sunday, in brilliant winter sunshine. Here is a photo of her alongside Martin Whitehead's steam drifter, while the respective skippers had a snack break.

You are to be congratulated on you workmanship Peter.
