Imara Build
« on: February 01, 2009, 10:36:11 pm »

Hi everyone
I'm busy building an Imara at the moment (God it's cold in that garage), and enjoying the experience.
It's well on the way as you can see and I'll be starting on the superstructure soon which I'm not sure I'm looking forward to with a multitude of bits of white metal to identify. But then it's all part of the challenge!!
However, there's loads of superb model Imara's on this and other sites which I use for reference, but it's defiinitely not a beginners model.

Very true, but it makes up into a really impressive model which you can be very proud of - if you have somewhere to store it that is!

Well worth a position of it's own. I'm following this with huge interest as it's very informative.

Keep going Brian, I'm right behind you.  :-))

Good evening all
Having finished building my Imara I've decided to build another one only this time as an RN Perseverance.
So............... if anyone has any pics or tips or any info. whatsoever about the Perseverance would they please let me know.
I already have the only pic (?) of her in real life, full length starboard side.
I'm enclosing a pic of my Imara.

Hi Brian
The Imara kit certainly separates the men from the boys as regards kit building, & 'u the man !!!' I've not seen a better example.
Congratulations on a super model

Thanks Rob for putting my Imara on to YouTube, thanks also for your help with the electrical side of the build, and I mustn't forget your input with the camcorder!

Hi Brian,

What an impressive build, it looks just right- especially that wash thats created from two huge props. :}

Just wondering what kit you built this from? Also what size is the boat?

A superb build, Brian. She sails great with loads of power.

The only thing missing is a model of me hanging over the back rail, all green.  :} :} :}

Well done, can't wait to see the "Perseverance" version. The Imara price has dropped a hundred in the shops, so nows the time to get one.

all the best

Hi Greg
Thanks for your comments, I must admit she looks very well on the water.
The kit is by Caldercraft, she's 1105mm long, 292mm beam, weighs in about 16kg and is 1:32 scale.
Since the boat has to sit quite low in the water a fair bit of ballast is needed made up mainly of lead acid cells and about 3kg of lead.
2x12v 7.5 amp  batteries for the motors, 2x12v 1.3amp and 1x7.2 NiCD for the smoke unit (which wasn't on when the recording was made.
Regards

Both.  I'm sick with envy.

Still, you have encouraged me to get on with mine. I've got something to aim for now.   :-))  especially as you know where all the bits go. ok2
