Things found on the beach
« on: February 24, 2009, 01:56:36 am »

Here's one I'm sure anyone will find hard to beat. Things I've found on the beach over the years.

1. A Dead body
2. various sheep
3. various cows
4. Sharks
5. A couple of Porpoise
6. A crate of china
7. A sub nosed 6 shot revolver
8. An antique ships Polaris
9. WW11 Life vests
10 About 30 rounds of live 303 ammunition and counting. (disposed of).

Quite hard to beat I'm sure you'll agree.

You can hide the revolver easily enough, but the Polaris is a ruddy big missile.   ok2

I found a live artillery shell once - I couldnt get the bomb squad interested - they said that finding a shell on the beach was normal and to be expected.  :D :D

It's amazing that finding a body doesn't make news any more. But if you found an explosive shell it makes headlines. Mind you what would you sooner be standing next to when it explodes? Mmmm lovely!

I found a life ring covered in oil so I took it home and cleaned it up, hoping to find "Titanic" or something famous signwritten on it.
It said "Otterspool Promenade" :}

Not much in beaches around this area, but we were drift net fishing for salmon one time and got the nets fouled up with a dead horse that must have been in the water for a week or more. My mate tried to push it away with an oar and it exploded. I have never been sick at sea, but I was that day, and we still had to clear the nets.

Can;t beat a dead body on the beach , but i once found a pair of slippers and a wrist watch on the harbour wall at bridlington one eve whilst going fishing , the old dear was found by the inshore lifeboat a few hours later , sad but it was her choice .
Oh how about a forty foot container full of Royal fag's , not long after we found loads of customs and excise officers trying to guard what was left , the beaches along the south side of Bridlington were covered with the remains of soggy cig's for weeks .

Eh, you've got to be careful how you word that because of our relatives from the colonies. A container full of Royal fags has a whole different meaning lol.  :}

Yes the language has changed, When I was younger a fag meant a cigarette (hay buddy can I bum a fag), and to be Gay was to be happy. Now when I walk down the street i see all the Gay Fags and what they are smoking is certainly not cigarettes.

PS The only thing usually found on the beach (Lake Ontario) is goose and dog droppings.

Never found anything much on the beach, apart from donkey poop but I once found a dead cow in the canal, didn't know what it was but when I stepped on it (thought it might be a big rock?) my foot went right through, bleurgh  :o

You should try dragging a dead horse up the beach with the winch on the fitter's LandRover...we got it half way, the LandRover got stuck, then the horse just went "POP". The fitters weren't that happy when we took the thing back to them covered in blood, s**t and cr*p. It cost the council nearly ninety quid to dispose of the horse's remains, and cost me a few bob in hot water standing under the shower afterwards.

Warning...if you see a dead animal, leave it well alone, you don't half stink when they go "POP" all over you!

My local beach is pretty good for finding fossils, I found a new species of fossil crayfish which will get my name on it when it finally gets published (come on Martin get your finger out) NOT THIS MARTIN he'd eat the evidence i've been led to believe.

Hiya,
      years ago I found a polar bear skin and a stuffed alligator. You will find a DVD which some of you may find very interesting, here:-

thanks garston 1 , that incident happend a long time ago.
Incidentally when the container of cigarettes landed on the beach , the same ship also lost a container of trainers (alessi) and one of top brand whisky , most of the residents of brid at the time were wearing trainers for a long time after then , as for the whisky the customs boys  :police: searched high and low ,and even watched and boarded  <*<  the local fishing boats to check their cargo  %) as they suspected they knew the location of the container on the sea bed .
As far as i know they never found it  {-)  {-) .
