How to identfy a prop shaft thread ?
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:59:43 am »

What is the simplest way to identfy a thread on a shaft I have so that I can order a propellor online ? I will take a photo later alongside a ruler and as I don't have and calipers hopefully someone can come up with a solution. Thanks in advance, Dan.

I think you will find that most shafts these days are either metric M4 or M2, usually the former. Measure the diameter of the shaft outside of the thread. If it is 4mm it will be M4, 2mm M2. A second check is if you have M2 or M4 nuts which you can screw onto the shaft thread.

If your shaft is an old one then it could be 4BA which is essentially the same as M4.

Yes, that looks right.
