              Hello People,

First post ,and I'm in need of help! I have been given a model of Cuttey Sark ,
It came with one hundred issues of a magazine,no drawings just photo cards
and rather skimped instructions.First problem Dead Eyes, how to keep them
straight. Second I'm having terrible trouble setting up the ratlines awful on
my 77 year old eyes and shakey fingers !!! This model MUST BEFINISHED.
              Donated by second eldest daughter!!!!!!

Shakey,

When I do my dead eyes, I use a piece of bent piano wire shaped like a letter U, actually I use a whole bunch of them, one for each pair of dead eyes. I use these to hold the dead eyes while I am tying the shrouds. Once the shrouds are all in place I then install the line between the dead eyes and make sure that the mast is at the right angle of rake fore and aft and the it is vertical port and starboard. Now that the shrouds are in the right place I start tying the ratlines in place starting at the bottom, I use a little piece of paper folded in half so I get all of the ratlines at the same gap and level.

I hope this helps, If not ask more questions.

If you don't have any instructions or drawings for your kit, it would be well worth ordering a set of G. Campbell's plan from the official gift shop:
http://www.cuttysark.org.uk/index.cfm?fa=contentShop.productList&directoryId=6

At £7.50 plus postage for all 3 (hull, rigging and sails) they're great value. The plans are very accurate and extremely detailed - I've found them invaluable for my own build of the Cutty Sark (rebuilding an old kit-built wooden model)

Good luck!
