Going to try building the Imara in the New Year
« on: December 20, 2009, 05:01:35 pm »

Hi All,
I hope to start to build the Imara in the New Year so any help would be greatly appreciated ;) For a number of years I have been building Billing kits ie.Victory, vanguard etc. But now I need a new challenge. As I live in Bournemouth I am very lucky to have a great kit shop on my door step(Westbourne Model Shop)and have had many a happy hour looking round for a new project.
  So New Year new start.I would like to get the twin screw version  of the Imara and put in a steam Engine and a smoke machine also lighting.  I will need a crew but so far have had no luck finding any {:-{
 Well thanks for reading this, and I wish all you boaties out there a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :-))

Hi Mike182uk

I have been pondering the same some too long now and have many photos of other people's moldels. I have attached one of the of the original - very atmospheric.

I was in the Westbourne shop last October - green with envy! My nearest shop for boat bits is >100 miles away!

Good luck with the build

If its the Caldercraft Imara you are going to do, your crew awaits.

Hello, I am in the same boat as you (sorry). I have not long had an Imara to build, and like to have all the bits on hand before starting. I have a heap of links to make you drool, so I'll put them at the end of this reply. ok2
I copied some photos of a fellow who is quite well known on this forum, and he had a short list of dos and don'ts, but do you think I can find it? No way!  >>:-(   So if someone knows him, please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Now, those links, and I won't put them all up, or I'd fill your computer  :embarrassed:  ok2

That's all for moment. I hope you find them enjoyable and informative.

Some of my films on there Steam head.  Feel free to keep us informed of your build and if we can help you with any queries, then you only have to ask.

The Imara build is quite a challenge, so remember .....  measure twice  (three times in some occasions!) and cut once.    :-))

Cheers

I DON'T BELEAVE IT >>:-( I just deleted a long comment on your fantastic and warm welcome and input) Start again!!!! {-)
Here we go.....I have been building static kits for some years now and have got a lot of pleasure & satisfaction from building them.As I live in Bournemouth it is steeped in Napoleonic history and Portsmouth is just up the road with the Victory which I have built plus many others,However I think its time to change my direction and  take on a new challenge. As a boy I grew up round the docks of London where I could watch these fantastic tugs.I think the Imara will give me the challenge I'm looking for O0 I would love to have the money to put a steam plant in her unfortunately £1000.00 plus is a step to far <:( so it will have to be electrics I would also like to fit her out with lights, smoke plant and working ancker.Anyway thanks again for your great input, will keep you posted on any new developments :-)) Please feel free to send any tips or tricks in this miniature world we live and love. :-)) cheers Kenny,Steam head,DickD & bobdoc Talk soon {-)
