I can help here. In mine I have.

Deans Marine Kyte motor.
6" prop shaft with oil filler.
3 bladed brass prop same size as kits, cant remember size at moment.
Marine 5 speed controller.

Dont get a longer prop shaft as it will move battery etc to far forward.

I have just ordered another one of these from Westbournes as they are now getting a bit scarce and according to Barry at Westbournes they have bought up the remaining stock.
Thought I might make a better job this time round.

My favoured power is a 5 pole 385 or 400 run on about half its rated voltage.  Agreed about the shaft - if you want to use a SLA you dont want the motor too far forward.

My prop tube is also 6", and I still need a bit of weight in the back because I can't get the SLA rearwards enough. If I do another I may well look at a 5 or 4 inch, run the shaft horizontal, and use a submarine seal to cut down on any leakage from such a short shaft.

The problem is that the Flower needs a lot of weight to bring it down to the design waterline. So you need a lot of space at the centre of the boat for lead, batteries, or whatever you're going to use. Space at the bow is no good, because you need a similar space at the stern for counterweight, and there is very little room below decks at the stern of these boats...

I packed lead under the prop shaft from where it enters the boat up to the motor and again in front of the motor. :-))

I used what I can only discribe as an r/c car style battery in my one and it is remarkably light (see picture on this build thread). Great in an R/C car but in my next one I will look into getting a 6v(?) car battery style lead one (does that make sense?) as this will double as ballast. I had to put a lot of ballast into my Corvette.

I used the Deans Marine 6" prop shaft and one of their brass prop shafts. I think it was 35mm. I didn't know which one to get so when I sent them my email i explained what they were for and they amended my order to give me the correct parts. Brilliant service. The rest of the goodies I got from Cornwall Model Boats. With both companies I ordered bits in the morning and the postman delivered them the next day!

Yup - I have a shaped lead casting right at the stern around the rudder shaft. I use a 6v 4.5ah SLA in the centre of the ship - there is room for two, but I cannot get them far enough back to balance, so I just have an extra 1.3ah in there for the smoke generator. The corvette can take a lot of weight if you clear the centre of the hull, and that lets you add all sorts of extra features, so long as you keep the CG low...

Another way of powering it and getting the weight in the right place is to use two sticks of three or four D size cells, one stick down each side, giving six or eight in series for 7.2 or 9.6 volts, depending on the choice of motor.  Extra ballast is still needed, but it can be useful ballast, like smoke unit, sound unit/speaker etc, batteries for working the extras, since the side sticks can have their position arranged to best advantage.  Water repulsive grease in the shaft and the use of two brass washers with a neoprene O ring between them at the prop end make for a pretty good thrust bearing/seal to keep the water at bay.

Work has begun again on my Corvette build. I have unpacked most of the boxes now and have room in the man cave to finally finish her off, so over the next few weeks I hope to finish the build and get her in the water! Afterall i need to check the local pond for U-Boats before we send the yachts out..
