Help wanted with Tug information
« on: April 09, 2009, 09:19:45 am »

Hi,
Firstly I will say that I know nothing about tugs but after seeing all the great builds on this forum I find myself being drawn to them.
I was recently in Plymouth and couldn't help noticing the tugs in the Naval dockyard area. There seemed to be two different sizes and one appeared to me to be quite small. They were painted black and buff, were very clean and good looking Tugs.
I would like to know more about them ie.
what type they are?
Is there a kit available?
Is there something similar I could convert?
Sadly I did not have a camera with me so I would appreciate any photo's.
I do hope you can help me on this one.

Cheers

Dale.

Hi Richard,

many thanks for the photo's........Atlas is the closest looking but not quite right somewhere.......I do wish I had taken a camera!!

The smaller Tug that I mentioned was really quite an attractive looking Tug.....

Can't believe I just said that about a Tug but it's true.  O0

I have been searching the net today but haven't come up with anything yet.......

This has got to be a future build when I find it.

Many thanks again

Dale.

gibson,
Try googling "RMAS TUGS".
The tugs you were looking at were bought and operated by the RMAS (unfortunately now Serco Denholm).
They were buff and black.
The larger of the tugs is a TUTT (Twin Unit Tractor Tug)
The smaller one is a SUTT (Single Unit Tractor Tug) of the "Felicity" Class

Hi Dale,
did you have a look at the category "tugboat kits" right here on this website. Because you seem to be also interested in building one this site might be for you.

Hi Richard,

yes I did take a look (several times) thank you for that.
Isn't it funny how a subject that you have never really paid much attention to can suddenly become fascinating.
A couple of months ago, aTug was a Tug..........but now.........different matter and there are some very fine looking vessel's out there!!
Some of the Kit makers on there I have never heard of........can you recommend any?.......What are Deans like (apart from being expensive)

Thanks again
