plastic strip
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:16:03 pm »

Hi all.
I am building my ferry Celestine out of plastic card. I all so have been using a lot of ever green / plastruct section . These packs are not cheep.
Take the 2mm by 2mm square strip . Is there any way to make cheaply.  May start with 2mm plastic card and cut it . Ok I thought this sound like a plan ,but no mater how hard I try I cant a nice square section with straight edges. Any one got any ideas or thoughts or I am stuck with buying these pack of plastic strip.

Evergreen HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) strips are extruded through polished hardened steel dies to form the profiles that you use.  It would be highly unlikely that you could achieve anything like the quality of finish of the Evergreen product by cutting strips of Plasticard.

I think it was Dr Johnson who once said something like, "Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten".

In most model shops  there is a open rack of plastic lengths of various shapes. They're about 100mm long, try them.  As Malc says even the best of us would struggle to get the quality finish of these manufacture plastic shapes.

Then there is always a p&p cost if you buy on the net which when you stand back and look at it over a given period of time, its costly.

Got to the stage where I just lift the phone to Squires and order making sure its over a tenner. Then its p&p free.

I don't think there is much missing that they can't offer in the catalogue that you have to get elsewhere, unless your visiting your local model shop.

Try Slaters plasticard's Microstrip -
http://www.slatersplastikard.com/plastikard/microstrip.html

Its the same product as Evergreen but made in the UK and much cheaper.
