tamiya 1/350 rc fleet pics
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:43:19 am »

Hi, this is our mini rc fleet comprised of a 1/350 tamiya enterprise, new jersey, bismark, tirpitz, 2 yamato's , musashi, pt-15 ( i think 1/35 or 1/72 cant remember) and 2 1/72 revell type 7's (both works in progress but will be static divers, with a third to come) These have proved quite popular at the lake we go to (black park) because at such a small size they're quite unusual and run very well.

I myself have built and painted these with the exception of the musashi (built and painted by my brother) and one of the yamato's (built and painted by my dad) And the new jersey was built by my brother 'cos he doesnt really like painting. These are their boats. And the bismark and 1 of the subs i did on my dads behalf.  The rest are MINE  ;D ;D

Very nice. As I am currently building a small model with limited  access, I too would be very interested in pics and details of radio, servo and motor installation.

Great pics, Love the PT Boat, I would be interested in knowing what the radio gear set up is in one of these.

Hi guys, thanx for your comments. I'll try to get some pictures of the insides on here tomorrow if i get a chance, if not, they will definately be on here at some point.

There are already pics of the inside of the enterprise i posted in a topic i started recently in this section and to be honest the others are very similar, I try to keep everything as simple as possible. ;D

Propellors for the Enterprise are made by prop shop, and the props for the others came in the kits because they came with an option for a straight runner, yamato, musashi, bismark, tirpitz all came with gearboxes and proper driving props and shafts. New jersey has gearbox taken from another musashi, and enterprise from another tirpitz These made the conversions alot easier. However Tamiya have recently removed this option from the kits >:( >:( >:( However i dont see why it wouldnt be possible to just use more than one motor and get props and shafts from prop shop.

Ill explain more when i put the pictures on so you can see what im talking about.

OH, and i cant remember any problems at all in converting these again because i just kept it all so simple. The enterprise had some minor difficulties which again is explained in the other topic i started HAVE A LOOK! pics on there aswell.

if you want more info, im happy to help.

Thanks again. :)

And laserblue, about a month or two for each of the battleships and PT, 7 months for the enterprise, and subs about two months to date with still a third to paint up and dive units to make up for all 3

And all airbrushed

All very nicely done, I think converting plastic kits is going to take a lot of my time up this winter ;)  I'm going to be bogged down for a while making the speedo on my first boat, but once I get over that I'm sure some more practical questions will come up.

Keep the pics coming - thanks!

Hi. Here are the pics of the insides. They're named so you can see which is which. Thinking about it last night there was a problem i forgot to mention.

At first we used a 27mhz radio which suffered ALOT of interference, so we replaced it with a hitec 40mhz which helped but didnt cure, so we attached the receiver above the waterline (To the deck) and now the range is unlimited. Itll go so far you cant see it. No idea why this happened afterall subs work under water  ??? . All the boats are like this however only pictured in 2. And it ways so little it doesnt effect the balance in any way.

All the boats use the same radio, esc, battery, and micro servos. and also the rudders were made out of brass.

Also forgot to mention that the PT 15 has instruction and parts to convert to R/C.

Hope these are ok will get more if wanted.

Grant :)

Looking at the pics is a great help, the use of velcro and the note about keeping the RX above the water line is interesting!

I'm suitably inspired to get on with my build; I'll try my best to keep it simple and focus on what is necessary, but unfortunately it's in my nature to add fripperies.  I'm pretty certain I won't be able to get the paint as nice as those but I guess that'll come with practice.

Thanks again for sharing those pics, no doubt I'll be back with questions.

Grant,

The twin shaft gear box in the Bismark is that a Tamiya standard gearbox, as I have one but had no idea who made it >>>

Roy its probably best to be on the safe side and take the gearbox with to the shop and ask to see the kit, if like tamiyas it is a complete one piece hull then just put in the gearbox and see if the gearbox shafts look as though they near enough line up with where the prop shafts will go then it should be fine.

Look at the picture of the New Jersey, it doesnt line up perfectly (You can just see the bend in the rubber) but the rubber coupling takes out the misalignment and runs fine

   Hope you find one.

Grant. :)

Hi PT boat is Tamiya. I'm almost positive its 1/35 but i'll check and get back to you.

I built it a while ago so ive kinda forgotten. :)

More in depth pics of the subs in the subs section if your interested. Spread over 2 topics.
