Great shame, quite a character was Ted and the only surviving link with an event that changed the course of our history.

It was only a couple of years ago that Mulenhiem-Rechberg died as well, although he left behind quite an amazing book of the events.

Our thoughts, of course, should be with Teds family.

Was Ted Briggs the rating on the bridge that survived by being blown out of the door by the force of the explosion?

He was pushed out of the bridge door by a lieutenant as she went down Martin as far as I remember. From all of the written and tv reports i've ever seen he was a very humble man who refused to be called a hero "I was only a survivor" was his response to that.

May he rest in peace

Ted Briggs says that the officer stood to one side and let him go out first.
He tells his account of that day in THE BATTLE OF HOOD AND BISMARCK.
A channel 4 dvd.

It made me laugh the sight of him in that orange suit, that was pretty tight around the mid-riff, when he was transferred from the boat that brought him out from Iceland to the survey ship... he fell into that rigid/Gemini and was alid on the floor the whole way across. :-)

Poor fella, it was a struggle to maintain ones dignity and safety at the same time.  :-)

I was in contact with the Hood Association just before he died about the possibility of him launching my manned model... I think he was going to do it but sadly, it wasn't to be.
