IDENTICAL MOTORS - DIFFERENT SPEEDS
« on: April 19, 2009, 01:39:56 pm »

Not really into electrics,

I have two IDENTICAL BUHLER motors, except that one is fitted with a suppression kit( don't know why as these motors are so clean running anyway )...... except for the speed at which they turn under battery power.

I can put them on any volt battery from 3 to 12v and one runs approximately twice the speed of the other.

Can anyone explain to me the reason why please, and whether I could ever use them as a pair on a twin screw boat with twin ESC'c.
cheers,neil; %% %% %%

Buhler motors are made for different applications and voltages.
It sounds like you have 2 motors that look similar but one has double the opersting voltage.
As to using together, either double the voltage on the slower motor or have a boat that forever goes in circled.
The standard answer would be not to use in the same boat.

buehler/ buhler put paper part number stickers on them.

Neil,there is a fair chance the same motors as yours is part of the usual 1/4 million surplus consignment that passes through the hands of surplus vendors like surplus traders and goldmine electrics

cheers, Guys.
I do have a pair of motors from another lifeboat, about the same size as the buhlers and they were great for low down upto excellent scale speed for the old classic lifeboat,and will probably use those, but can't remember where the buhlers came from. {:-{
The next model that I will need big fast motors for is a Speedline Tamar ( unless a certain member requires it  ;D) that I have on my slipway waiting to be built, but I think I'll be going brushless with that one. %%
Thanks for the info though. :-))

you may find one motor is 12 volt and the other 24 volt I have had both and they look identical , they normally have a number on the body you can look up the speck on there site, both are OK at the correct voltage.
