graupner's elmshorn is a good little build, as is the Pollux tug.

there is also the Billings Bankert as well

Check out  http://www.modelslipway.com/ their kits are excellent with good instructions and drawings.

Their web site also will tell you which kits are suitable for the beginner, has model reviews and an excellent hints and tips section.

You can also ring them and they will offer advice and are very helpful people.

I think it depends on your skills. If you are happy working from drawings and templates, then MMM have a great range of tugs. If you need a kit with parts already printed onto the material (and maybe diecut) then Model Slipway or Graupner are for you!

Both are great companies and will offer all the help you need to build your model.

What type of boats do you like the look of vts99?

I like the Robbe Paula III as most things are included with the kit but as Dicky says Model Slipway kits are very highly
regarded on Mayhem, have a look at their 'Mini Kits' range to get your hand in.

cheers for the help everyone . i am more into the sort of up to date tugs compared to the older ones . i was thinking along the lines of the happy hunter or the aziz anchor handler but not sure really its been years since i built one so not too sure how good i`ll be at it ,and was wondering if there was a kit that was good at doing the job . i just know i dont really want one of these wee dinky tugs that when it goes a certain distance i won`t be able to see it  :-)
