It took me two days to make mine, using a jigsaw, some screws and a cordless drill. All whilst drunk... Plus, mine was three or four times the size of a standard one...

Give it a go :-))

I'm 17 and have been making plastic kits (with scalpels etc) since I was 3, and have owned hobby tools since I was 4, ditch the heath and safety, get an adult to help, and give it a try :-))

You will never know if you don't have a go at building a Springer. If you mess up the woodwork it ain't going to cost you much. Do you/ Dad have any tools to cut wood??
Anyway if you get really stuck then I am sure Me or Andy can build you a springer hull.  Why don't you do some drawings of wot you want to do with the top of it. pm your email address and I will send you mine.  It has to be said there are MANY different shapes. Radio wise you will need to get one and fit it. Can you do that? You can get a RC setup for  £35/£45 on 27MHz. Motor I can get you one for a few pounds. A battery from an old buggy will do to start with and may be the resister speed controller.

Not sure, but I imagine that the hulls could be assemble for less than £10.
And that would be one for you and one for your dad...  ok2

If you have or can pick up a small hand jig saw, or coping saw, you can probably have
your springer(s) framed up in a weekend.

  • Use the small hand saw to cut a pair of sides.
  • Then cut some rectangles for the front and backs.
  • Glue and Nail the front and back pieces in place.
  • Then sheet the bottom with thin plywood, or balsa...(or what ever is handy...)
  • Then Laquer or fiberglass to waterproof the wood.

After that we can get into how to add running gear. (motor, propeller, rudder)

Nathan
Wait and see,the generosity of the people on this forum, will might suprise you.
You could have a springer (with  Billls start) on the water for nothing.
I have been in contact with Bill as well,to help our younger members into model boating.
So be patient and once you got one your dad will want one
