have just been given a 25a sea hunter  esc is it possible to test it in any way to see if it works

I don't know the beast but yes,
  • plug it up to a load - motor or car headlamp bulb,
    servo tester (ideal)  or receiver
    battery - suggest you start low power and volts  - perhaps 6 cell nicd pack/6V lead or whatever you have


Try it
A little research seems to suggest it is the ESC supplied with Tomcats (I assume that's not the F14 :}) so it should be pretty bulletproof.  I think the Tomcat has a warm 550 motor (perhaps 15 Amps) and I have seen 6 to 10 cell mentioned  (effectively 6 to 12 volts)

You will now be inundated by the mayhemmers who know the sea hunter like the back of their hands :}
