This is my first RC build, I have done models years ago when I was a teen, now I am 43 and am taking my time and enjoying doing it. You can get plans in the size that you want from Jecobin this is there web site http://www.jecobinplans.com/estore/index.php?

I have reworked the top part and done some soldering on the smaller mast. I have also done the small steps on the large mast and the rings for the steps.

Hi all,

I decided to redo the walkways along the side of the hull as i was knocking them off all the time, I drilled 1mm holes into each one about every 10 mm then marked and drilled the hull. they are rock solid now. I also fitted the anchor mounts by the rear door and done the bits that go on the sides of the hull.

Super looking Model... My father was on the old HMS Intrepid D10 (Destroyer) when she and the Cossack Liberated the British prisoners from the German supply ship Altmark in the Norwegian Fjords in WW 2...

Just found this article on this website. I served on this Intrepid 1989 - 1991 (very much at the end of her life.) I've seen your other post looking for the Landing Craft photos & will have a look thru' my old snapshots etc & see what I can find.

Your build is very impressive!

Hi All,

I have only been doing very small amounts on my build for some time because Ive had health issues. But I am slowly getting back on the horse so to speak.

I have all of the bits from PS Ships and have been taking the bur's of them, and filling any small holes that they may have.
I will upload a latest picture very soon.

Hope to be going full tilt.

I am Jimmy = planning her as my next project, hull in garage ready and fittings being assembled once I finish my HMS Yarmouth. Have plans, refence book from George Macks biography. You might also be interested to know that some members of our HMS Intrepid Association (not to be confused with HMS Intrepid Ltd which is limited company and not linked to the association of ex HMS Intrepid ships company) is considering a visit to leros in 2013 to pay resepcts on the 70th anniversay or her being sunk. I am hoping to do a recce visit next September in preparation for the 2013 visit. Albert, one of the survivors of the D10 Intrepid is a member of the current HMS Intrepid association.

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately my father didn't survive the war. He was lost on HM Submarine P514 in 42 But I will look forward to the build .

Hi, I remember them well the pair that is, as I had the unfortunate job of devising a method of putting these ships in chains at the top of Portsmouth harbour where they laid until towed away for scrap. It was a difficult job with limited resources, using heavy 88mm CC for the chain bridles with no power on these vessels and only the Moorhen to secure the chains to the buoys. I have some other prints of her in Portsmouth if interested. Intrepid made the news when laid up because she cost the MoD £96m in maintenance costs without ever leaving the basin, one of the reasons was when she was docked her rear gate fell off into the dock with alot of her aft bottom plating, remember seeing new plating being made to replace it, that was near her end with the RN.

Yeah the stern gate was often our beach for some R&R when I served on her. When she went to Liveseys if had been repaired which was rather pointless given her fate was decided but then to make the journey to liverpool towed by Ormsby Cross she had to have it back on.

The stern on the Intrepid was repaired about 1995, then as with all ships in reserve she had to be maintained to a standard where she could be mobilised. I remember the steam tug Sea Giant, flatten her front end at Portsmouth during the Coronation review of 1976, she as due to go into reserve 6 months latter, but she was still towed to Rosyth and had a new bow fitted to her. The RN used to pay alot of money on old ships in reserve once and commercial firms almost always multiply by ten the costs figure if they know it is a MoD contract. Talking of reseve fleet, we always used to have a large fleet in mothballs ready to go when hostilities arose, I remember Chatham basins where filled with them and it carried a flag rank, but now it is a handful of stripped out hulks on moorings waiting to go for razor blades or a small group of minehunters waiting sale to the greeks or anyone else who has the loot.

SuperModels featuring the 1:48 scale Fearless model was repeated on Discovery Shed (242) the other day. watched the whole lot (allthough for some reason 3 episodes were missed) Great show and a very impressive model.
