Vosper "crash tender" 20+year retro/refit
« on: October 16, 2006, 08:49:11 pm »

Hi Peeps,
I find myself writing this after finally finding out the name and type of boat my grandfather made and gave to me shortly before his death in 1980.I was at a RNLI display on the Isle of Wight yesterday, when i saw the boat which is currently sitting in my garage on a shelf.(or at least how it used to look!)
This Vopser is about 48" long x 11" wide and has seen better days. Unfortunately the "kiddy" incarnation of  me was fairly destructive and absent minded. This has left the "old girl" in a bit of a state. I made some efforts to do it up some few years ago but only got as far as a hull repair, and an undercoat. There are several bits missing such as deck equipment , the centre roof panel, the rudder control thingy mounted in the rear deck area... you get the picture.
I was a keen modeller, usually scifi and aircraft, so i have some skills with building , however i  would like to turn this boat in to an R/c setup. This i have no knowledge about. So if there is anyone out there who can give some tips on what i need to do to retro fit this "old girl" with new kit i would be most gratefull.
I really just need to know initially what mods if any need to be made to the structure before i get into the detailing the boat back to its former glory.I am happy to submit pics if required.
Thanks in advance!

You might consider joing the Vintage Model Workshop group. The idea of the group is to share information regarding plans, restoration tips etc for the traditional wooden powerboats - especially the Aerokits (makers of the Crash Tender kits) and Veron models of the 1950's and 1960's. Also for members close to each other to meet up. The group also attend some of the meetings such as Sandown, Ascot and Beale Park. Membership is free, if you are interested I can give you the contact details for the secretary.
