Y leads and more
« on: October 25, 2006, 03:36:22 pm »

This may be a daft question but I do like to be sure of my ground rather than watch as smoke starts to rise.

Ok, so I can use a Y-lead off the Rx to drive two servos simultaneously but can I splice in another leg to give three outputs and expect to be trouble free?  Will current drain on Rx be too high or am I risking some other electronic nasty?

Are you using a BEC from main battery or separate power supply for the receiver.
What do the 3 servos drive?

Bob,

This is a work in progress and I have not made up my mind whether or not to use a BEC. Servos would be used to traverse two guns and a searchlight (light loads).

Speed controller BECS dont usually give more than 1 amp max, so would tend to go for seperate receiver pack.
Not keen on 3 servos from 1 channel though.
Any thoughts about 1 servo operating microswitch to the servos with the guts taken out?
might be worth a consideration.
My preference is to run as little from the receiver as possible with 1 servo operating switched circuits.

Bob,

I guess the current draw was at the back of my mind with this query. I have one model happily driving two fire monitors via a Y-lead but had a suspicion that three might be stretching a point. I have a hazy idea about using limit switches and reversing, geared, motors but will also have a think about stripped servos. I seem to remember that this is described elsewhere on this forum.

Thank you,

Have you looked at the JCC range, they do the train and shoot range also they have a search light controller.

More expensive route but you may get the controlls you are after.

Marc.

I have looked at the JJC range but having convinced She Who Must Be Obeyed that a new radio outfit is essential, I was trying to keep costs down.

Thanks,

Barry,

Do you really need a new outfit or will a second hand set do say from ebay. I have been looking around and found the cirrus RX 4 channel mini RX for £15 I think thats what I paid. Also Xmas is coming up so there is that instead of socks and hankies

Marc,

It's a 6/7 channel set that I want. Although Futaba 6-channel Tx/Rx come up on eBay and Fleet 7 channel (very, very occasionally), they are fetching such high prices that I would rather pay a bit extra and get a warranty and consumer law protection.  A Navy X-14 came up recently and fetched an eye-watering price.

Cheers,
