Is it needed?
« on: June 15, 2009, 08:28:19 am »

Do I need to paint or seal the inside of my vessel? I would think so, being that it might get wet at some time or another. Also, What do you guys recommend for above the waterline outside? I recently acquired a Caltex Lumba Lumba half finished kit and I glassed the hull, so it is okay. But the deck has been done in white sealer/primer only. What do you recommend? Anchorboy

Sorry to leave your question unanswered for a while

The answer to the first bit depends on what the boat is made of and where you stand on letting wood breathe :}

For painting inside your hull - looks nice,  You will be able to see and find things,  It may help seal the hull.  If you have lights they will appear brighter and more even.

Against - it may stop wood breathing and hasten rot  - but you WOULD leave the hatch off and dry the boat out after each outing anyway :}

Don't know what people use for a boot topping - I have been known to use car trim tape sealed down with polyurethane varnish
