P38
« on: June 18, 2009, 03:59:14 pm »

I've just finished filling and rubbing down where needed. I have a bit of super structure thet has come away from the filler (hair line crack). Is their anything a can bond it with, or is it just a matter of re-filling?

Many thanks.

If its a hair crack you cold probably run thin cyano into it which would fill and bond the crack - or any other thin glue (thinned balsa cement :})
Or do a GlynGuest and run in well thinned Hammerite paint - seals and bonds as it hardens

if you use thinned Hammerite it may react with the paint as it is cellulose based.

That's a good heads up. O0 :-)) :-)) :-))

Normally I just scrape it back and re-glue, then fill again. I just wondered if some one out their had a quick/easy solution. But there never is with modelling {:-{, Is there? <:(

Thin superglue should be fine,
The P38 is porous so will provide a good key for it.
Is the superstructure wood or plasticard?

I use filler all the time  along with a finer filler called U-Pol TopStop.  I use this with plastics and timber and resins  without any problems. If it pulls away then cyano glue gets it back as other people have said. I still use cellulose  over this as a primer then enamels as a finish,  never had a problem

Mark47, P38 is a polyester resin based product, so use polyester resin to bond it together! Just mix some with the appropriate amount of hardner and run it into the crack, it should be as strong as the original job... if not stronger.
