Heller Bodasteinur Trawler Kit
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:53:27 pm »

Originally released under the correct name of Roc Amadour LO 193680 in the 1970's ( registered in Lorient France , the real ship was built in 1973 by Chantiers et Ateliers de la Manche in Dieppe ) this kit was re-released under one of her subsequent names of Bodasteinur and the original trawler was laid up for sale in 2008 after being replaced by the ex Shetland registered stern trawler Sunbeam LK335 http://www.trawlerphotos.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=26516

I originally started this kit over 2 years ago and it lay on my work table most of that time ( my healths been pretty bad for the last few years ) with the inevitable problems of hull distortion and deck distortion to the point that when I started the model ( I always dry fit the major components ) everything fitted after 2 years of heat/cool/sun/etc gaps were everywhere and it took a lot of "persuasion" to get it all to fit together close enough to be passable.

I had considered building this with a micro servo stripped down as a motor and a servo for the rudder but it really is just that bit too small to work so I decided to cut the bottom of the hull off and make it into a diorama. Not the best built nor painted model I've ever done but for the first one I've finished in 5 years I'm not that worried about the problems just glad its finished !!
