Here's an update: I took the gear back to the retailer and after showing them the problem, agreed to replace everything rather than trying to find the possible fault through changing the crystals or Tx/Rx. Everything is now installed back in the hull, which is undergoing sea trials in the bath.

Under going sea trials would say that he has fitted the replacement Acoms and is testing it

Back when Tamiya introduced their first electric hedgehog Sand Buggy we used to know the whole phrase of which ACOMS appears to be an acronym. I can't remember all of it but the C alluded to the state of things brown and sticky. Seems like certain things in life don't change much.

I remember that, in fact mine is still going strong 20 years later, Tx & Rx have never missed a beat (there's nothing like tempting fate eh?)

I still use 15-20 year old Acoms gear, used it in a multi before I got the Spektrum set. Bernard Holder uses it (I think) in his multi OMRA championship winning boats. There's nout wrong with it.
