Have a look over on the American forums first - they have LOADS of them -

Good for practice but don't fit into any racing category in the UK unfortunately.

According to the Potteries Model Boat Club no I.C powered (glow plug or petrol) boats can be used anywhere in Stoke-On-Trent.

Another alternative might be Burton and District Model Boat Club at Burton on Trent, not far from you.
The allow all forms of IC boats and some racing. Contact details are here -
http://www.burtonmodelboatclub.org.uk/
Pete Dimberline is an especially helpful bloke  :-))
If you feel like a quick sprint down the M6 - Kingsbury Water Park club is the best club north of Watford Gap (well I would say that about my own club). You can run ANY IC any day except Sunday morning or competition days - AND there is a permanently available rescue boat for members - not that we ever need it  %) %) {-)

(have IC boat - will travel)  %)
