DO YOU WANT YOUR MOBILE NUMBER ON DIRECTORY ENQUIRIES ?
« on: July 10, 2009, 09:04:17 pm »

Maybe you have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will
> be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access the
> numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the
> beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex directory. We have
> all unsubscribed and you may want to suggest it to all your friends and
> family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited
> messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the BBC - see link below.

The web site is being worked on at the moment but should be up and running again sometime soon.

I remember this on the news some time ago , and they gave out a number to text for opting out of the directory . i did it and sofar i have had no nusence calls since  , and i was getting about three a week , it was easy to deal with them just answer the phone and then put it to one side , they will give up eventually  O0 .

When the phone was bought, there was probably something to tie it to your identity.  This is the information being used to compile the directory.  If you dont tell whoever is in charge of this directory to miss you out, you are opted in.
I signed up for the preference scheme on my landline several years ago when about eight out of ten calls were cold sales calls.  This has dropped to about one a month, and I know, when they turn up that they must be from dubious outfits, and can treat then as such.  Let the recording talk to itself, or if its a real person, ask them where they got my number from. Again and again, ignoring anything that is not the right answer.  After all, its their time and money.
This might not apply with a mobile - thinking of roaming charges where you get charged for receiving a call.

Ha ha, no. Want to give me your bank details so I can stop anyone nicking your money? honest guv', honest, it's all true, I read it on the interweb so that proves it  O0

No, there wasn't, and for anyone who did give their personal details there are ways around it
Besides all that I enjoy abusing the occasional cold caller but I only get them on my landline  {-)
