Hi Harrin,

I can only echo whats already been said " Brilliant Job" and again the on water photos are superb.
The only thing I 'm not happy about is,
That I had one for Christmas and its going to be a hard job getting anywhere near your high standard!! but a least I've got yours as a reference point,
and I know who to contact if I need advice.
I'm finishing off a scratch built Clyde Puffer so I won't be starting mine till the summer.
Very very well done and many thanks for sharing it with us all.

Many thanks  :-)

The wheelhouse and most of the skylights, boxes etc (there's quite a lot of them!) are glued on place. Now I'm working on anchor winch and crane. Still wondering how to attach cable of cargo crane to the winch drum and wheelhouse still be easily removed.

Harrin
I served on the tenders for 18 years and I would like to draw your attention to the straight stem and narrower fore deck they have, which I find wrong with the kits of the LOYALS.
Also from my photos you will see that the hull underside is not red but chocolate brown - what the Ministry of Defence calls CHOCADMAR and there is no white line at the waterline.

Magic?

No. I'm experimenting with magnets for attaching cable to winch. Superstructure has to be easily removed. Small knob on winch base is a little magnet. There's piece of steel in the end of cable.

Pics of finished Loyal Moderator: http://www.sulara.fi/images/loyal/index.html .

The model is all brush painted, since I'm too lazy to learn airbrushing   %)

Cheers,

Without doubt, one of the most detailed/best builds I have seen. O0 O0 O0

No, it's a permanent magnet (not sure if this is correct word in English?).

Many thanks for your comments!

harrin,

Yes, that is the correct term for the magnet.

I have the Loyal Tender on my slipway and must build it one day soon. Your job is most encouraging, well done. I intend finishing mine in the alternative buff colour.

I reply to the underwater colour, all the MoD vessels I have seen including the RNXR Loyal boats had red anti-foul paint, with RN vessels having Black boot topping. I can remember some old Auxilliary Vessels having the old copper Green anti-foul bottoms, but they where few in number.
David.
P.S. As everyone has said it is a fine model a real beaut.

I, too am building a Loyal from the Model Slipways kit.  How does your boat handle?  Does she back straight without correction from the bow thruster?  How tight does she turn?  Is steering predictable, so docking is easy?  I have installed a Raboesch bow thruster.  Which one do you have and how does it help in handling?

Thanks,
Dave

It's photos like yours Harri that make me want to invest in a Slipway Loyal class Fleet Tender.   :-))
What we need on here is a Masterclass build thread!

Hi Dave, I installed a Graupner's bow thruster and it's certainly a help when docking. Steering is predictable and the model is very stable, but turning tight as well as reversing needs lot of thrust. She wont't back straight for long as the torgue of one largish propellor will turn the rear end to other side.

Hi Everyone, if anyone is still out there as this build log was last posted in 2009.  Does anyone have any other pictures from building the Model Slipways Loyal Fleet Class Tender?
I had one sitting around since 2004 (glad I did as they are no longer listed) just starting the construction.
Thanks,
Ed/Rhode Island/USA

Try the search engine on the front page of Mayhem  (outside the Forum) as it provides a more detailed search.  There has been several builds of this ship to my knowledge.

Hi Ed
Post the start of a build log and I'm sure people will find whatever you need.

It looks like a lovely kit to build and the one in this thread is a thing of beauty. I was hoping to build one but MS do not appear to be producing it now.

Mrs Spook and I were on a walking trip in Pembrokeshire a few weeks ago and one evening we had a meal at a lovely, quirky little pub called the Sloop Inn in a village called Porthgain. One of the ship models displayed in the pub was of a Loyal tender and I'm sure it was the MS kit. I don't suppose anyone here could lay claim to building it? I'm only sorry I didn't have my camera (AKA my third arm) with me, as I'd left it back at the B&B.  :((

Ringmaster, here is my build log of Loyal Volunteer, completed winter 2010.

A quite enjoyable build, plus the finished boat handles well.

Oops, I did a Ronald Reagan-I mis-spoke, or mis-typed.  The boat was finished early in 2011, not 2010.
