What is this?
« on: July 13, 2009, 09:52:38 pm »

Hi gents,

Could anyone tell me what this is and what colour it would be painted. Its from the Ripmax RTR Carlson tug which I am redoing as a modelboat instead of a toy, she will be called My Irish 'Lil, in honur of my late mother in law, who was from Antrim.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert

Looks like a small hydraulic capstan usually fitted to the after deck of a tug to control the bridle rope. Sometimes known as a GOG rope in some places.

Another daft question from a tug newbie. I bought some of the fenders off ebay for a fiver and just wanted to clarify if the taper one goes bow or stern? Pictures would help of other models...thanks you guys, almost done, windows done and deck sussed, just doing the lettering tonite, trying to get it ready for our club exhibition at Torbay steam Rally... and our tiny pool. Come by if your in the area july 31-Aug 1

Hi Robert,
No question is daft, we all had to learn some time! The taperred fender is normally found on the bow, but it's your boat, you can put it where you want! :-)) Hope your steam rally is better that the vintage vehicle one I went to this weekend - rain and mud dominated, but at least we had a lake to sail on, in between the showers!!!
