Rise up all you English.
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:18:34 pm »

England my England

Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected. Staff do as they're told
They must not teach children about England of old.

Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.

We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea
We're the English from England, let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud!

Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!!

I thought the English (Angles) originally came from Denmark or thereabouts and with the Saxons (Germans) drove the original inhabitants (Celts) into Wales and Cornwall.

So who are the "real" English?

If you look at it that way why don't they call the australians  australians (apart from the aboriginies) most of the original settlers are convicts .

Hello

You know that our former aircraft carrier Clemenceau is actually in the hand of the English breakers on the Teeside and actually the French Navy training ship Jeanne D'Arc lives her last year of service and then will be decommissioned at the end of 2010.

Now the crowds shout "please don't send her to the English breakers like the Clemenceau - the "deceptive albion" have already executed the real Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc) by burning on 30 May 1431 !

 :embarrassed:    {-)    :D

Taratata, English are still alive, remember the 2009 Six Nations Championship

France 10 - England 34   {:-{

Ron.. top marks to you for printing that mate.. it is so true and touches a nerve in most Englishmen I'm sure.
Sod the pc brigade and the lefties who want to emasculate the men, give women a pair and wipe our country, our history and  flag off the map. Too many have died for this country to let these people diminish it in the way they do. I am sick of people who now begin to question what is Englishness. We can't turn the clock back to what appeared to be some kind of eutopian view of what our counrty used to be, it certainly wasn't perfect but at least you could stand up and state that you were in fact an Englishman. Eveyone else in Britain can state which Nationality they are, no-one questions it, but God help you if you say you're English.  <:(

I can feel a 'rope moment' coming on! <*<

Sorry Ron1 You can't have England back  :o we British are keeping it - it's part of the British Isles and an important piece of our 'United Kingdom'.  >>:-( My ancestors were about equally from all main areas of Britain and a good many fought bled and died for the flag - it's been flying since 1800. Many soldiers peoples from our old British Empire and British Commonwealth sacrificed/suffered much to keep the values and ideals it represents 'flying'. Most countries in the world have learnt the value of nationhood rather than tribalism. This flag unites - yours is included - these are small islands.  ;)
History - the British Isles have been invaded by Celts/Romans/Angles/Saxons/Danes/Vikings and finally Normans. The indigenous people  either fled or were virtually enslaved/assimilated on each occasion. :((  King Athelstan from our 'Dark Ages' is ignored by our history books, yet his personal achievements are probablly unequalled for valour, generalship and heroism.  :-)

When did the Aborigines colonise Australia?

Archeological research suggests they have been here at least 60,000 years, and perhaps considerably longer than that. Was anyone here before that? I don't think so but, who knows for sure? Some fossilised fish were found in south west NSW that have been estimated at 360 million years old, older than the dinosaurs.

European settlement started in 1788 with convicts and their guards, with free settlers coming soon after that.

King Athelstan from our 'Dark Ages' is ignored by our history books,

He's not if you go to Malmesbury, in Wiltshire. His name is everywhere there, he even has a car dealership - Athelstan Motors  {-) {-)

Seriously, though, he hasn't been forgotten there, as his name is frequently mentioned when there is talk of the town's long history. Malmesbury claims to be  England's oldest borough. The photos are of 2 of the plaques in the footpath from the Abbey to the lower car park.

I think the bottom line here is that a Scotsman can and quite rightly is proud of being a Scot. Being British generally comes second. The Welsh are equally proud of being Welsh and the same with the Irish. The English are different in our Modern Society. it is true to say that they have to be British first and English a long way back in second....

Scorn if you like but this is most definitely true in our society!!

By the way ron1, an excellent poem.. :-)) :-))

Andy H....  I was born in England....I grew up in Scotland. espite living there for the first 20 years of my life, having a broad Scottish accent and being indistinguishable from the next man, I was never made to forget that I was born the other side of the border. I watched as people I had known and worked with took a different view of me when they discovered I had been born in England, some obviously disassociating themselves with me because of it. I knew my place, I was continually reminded of it at school and at work and learned at an early age that I 'didn't belong' and was somehow different.
That makes me English as far as I am concerned.
We are all Uk citizens because we belong to a United British Isles , United we will stand... but divided we will definately fall.

Wherever you go in this world, you will hear Scots, Welsh and Iirishmen correcting any foriegner who gets it wrong and refers to them as 'English'. They are proud of their identity and justly so, why shouldn't they be, so why are the English being singled out and watered down as British or UK citizens and slowly being drip fed this tripe.
Sounds very much like an indoctrination process to me!

I drove down Blackpool prom on Saturday.  The Neanderthals are still with us.  I wondered what the earlier ones survived on before the invention of chips.
