Hello

Have you seen that the first image is the one of the Japanese destroyer DD153 Yugiri  O0  What's a pity the HMS Ark Royal or a Duke class frigate would have been a better choice  :embarrassed:

A+ Xtian

PS : Today is 14th of July the French National day ... when we remember having cut heads to kings and royalist .... shocking  ;D

PS 2 : about Neanderthals, we still have some in France, and one of them was famous in England, because he used to play rugby with the Sale Sharks

.....and WOW, what a party we had here in our little village! My head still hurts 12 hours later.

however, to my shame, I still make a mess of singing the "Marseillaise"!

Most of you have gone well off track.
Yes I am British, but from England in Britain.
You know the place, the largest contributor to the UK budget but the only part NOT to have its own Parliament.
The Scots, Irish and Welsh have a certain amount of control over their affairs, why can't England.
Why should Scots, Irish and Welsh MP's vote on English affairs while we cant on theirs.
Yes the old West Lothian Question.
I have spent time in Scotland and Wales and the first thing mentioned was where I came from, followed by some quite insulting remarks from a minority.
So what did I do I returned to England, my preference.
I am English, will always be English, and PROUD OF IT.

I am a Scot, and damn proud of it, but I am also British, and damn proud of THAT too!

I married an English lass, so clearly have no problem with the English....far from it!

If you are English, then yes.....stand up and be proud of it 'cos this would be a poorer world without the contribution the English have made!

(Granted there may be a vocal section of the Scottish people who would disagree with me, but I usually ignore them!)

I am English and very proud of that fact. However being ex army I have a different point of view. Our four British nations always squabbled when they got together we were allowed to we are Irish, Welsh, Scots English British.

But God help any " b-gg-r " from another country who picked a fight for then all the nations of Britain would come together and kick some serious a--e.

Then enemy defeated we would go back to our little squabble.

Hello

From outside and maybe neutral position I like this Eric sentence  :-))

If you are English, then yes.....stand up and be proud of it 'cos this would be a poorer world without the contribution the English have made!

But I'm not and in rugby English are my "favorite enemies"  {-)

I've some difficulties to understand why in the United Kingdom nations like Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales have control over there affairs with parliament or national assemblies and why not England ?

We, the English, have to put up with a BRITISH National Anthem, whilst the other home nations have their own, why are we not allowed our own? Granted I'm British, but from a personal point of view I am English first and foremost. I too have spent time in Scotland and Wales, and enjoyed doing so, but England still comes first to me (even when in the crowd at Murrayfield, for a Scotland / England match!) I spent 25 years in the RN, defending ALL our shores, and I believe I have the right to call myself an Englishman.

Hello

... for my visit to Portsmouth Dockyard tomorrow....

I've made many port of call at Portsmouth but never time available to visit the HMS Victory. It's really a regret for me and I have to do it.

About HMS Victory, Trafalgar and Nelson (don't forget I'm French) One think I've not forget was to have a pi.. on Nelson statue situated on Grand Parade Street (in fact only the pedestal ... I'm not equiped with Fire Fighting  :embarrassed:)  I don't know if it's really a tradition but I know many French navy officer who's done this to !

At Portsmouth the boardwalk along the naval buildings is made from the timbers of captured French men of war. Visitors are asked to treat it with respect as a historical monument. Maybe French naval personnel take a different view?

I did enjoy visiting France last week as I always do. Our two nations should be friends.

Hello

One of my Grand Oncle (brother to my Grand Mother) used to serve the Royal Navy during the WW2 as he was in UK prior the french capitulation and was thinking at that time that serving with British was the best solution to defeat Nazi.

A little bit later two other of my Grand Oncles, after 18th june De Gaulle appeal used to serve the FNFL (Force Navale Française Libre - Free French Navy) and based in UK. One aboard of MTB on the Channel and one aboard of North Atlantic convoy protection based at Greenock.  In my family we are close friend to British (even English)  But having a pi .. "Censored " on the pedestal of Nelson statue is a tradition  :embarrassed:

I have to say that one time during a port of call at Portsmouth aboard of a French naval ship the commanding officer refused to fly any courtesy flag as he have some of his relatives dead during Mers El Kebir attack ...

History is different from people to other even for people of the same country.
