Stolen Boats
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:22:00 am »

As Editor of the Model Boats website I have been asked by Essex Police to publicise a burglary in Southend during which some boats and other models were stolen. The details are given below. The officer requesting assistance has commented as follows:

 I am afraid that I do not have  full details about the craft, whether they were made from commercial kits, fitted out from bare hulls or scratch-built. The loser is currently away on holiday in Europe. The officer says there are no photographs because they were all in a folder that was also stolen.

It is possible that the thief will attempt to sell the models on and it is hoped that somebody in the hobby may pick this up. Many Mayhem members monitor Ebay so it's probably worth keeping an eye out if you do.

Model sports cars, three boats and a collection of Jaguar mementoes were taken when intruders broke into a garden shed at Retort Close between July 2 and 5.

The boats were:
A green and grey Second World War motor torpedo boat, about 40in long and fitted with a diesel engine and three rudders;
A black and red cargo trawler with red hatch covers. It is about 24-28" long and has an electric motor
A 30in long black and yellow fast launch fitted with an electric motor. This boat has deck damage where it was attacked by a swan.

The cars were:
A green radio-controlled model E-type Jaguar convertible, about 12in long
12 limited edition pewter model Jaguars made by Franklin Mint
Six diecast 1:24th scale model cars – a brown Porsche 911, black Porsche 911 speedster; green Jaguar E-Type; purple and white Jaguar TWR XJR 16, red Ferrari 355 and another Ferrari.
Three large boxes of DinkyToy cars. They include 20 Jaguar racing cars and 15 Porsches.

A silver paper knife and two glass items, all with Jaguar motifs on them, were also taken.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the whereabouts of the stolen items, should contact Pc Asa Smith at Southend police station on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Hoping you can help
