Typing in the box.
« on: July 14, 2009, 06:43:26 pm »

As I mentioned at the end of the last posting in "Nautical.....etc", since I downloaded IE8 everything I write beyond the box limits comes out somewhat transposed and becomes gobbledygook. Have I done something wrong? Is it possible to increase the size of the writing window (box)? In addition, all my "drives" have been renamed (apart from "C") which is causing both problems and anger.
I did a System Restore but all I got was an inability to access the Internet. The screen kept reverting to the screen with all the Icons on.
Am I now limited to a posting with only a dozen or so lines ? Something wrong somewhere!  BY.

Bit of a bodge to work around the problem, but five minutes downloading and installing Google Chrome, and just using it to access sites like this will probably do the trick.  You get to keep IE, and if you tell the goggle thing not to be the default, no problems.

If this shows up, I have written out of the  box, as the previous lines have scrolled up and away.

IE8 has compatibility mode (look in the tools drop down and select that which should cure your small annoyance

R, :-))

So it isn't just me thats having "problems"?  That makes me feel a bit better. Not a lot, but better.
So I suppose that until some boffin comes up with an answer I will be posting in paragraphs rather than in chapters?
So be it. BY.

I have not tried it on Mayhem yet but I've just downloaded Chrome and it seems to have solved the problem i was having in posting articles on the Model Boats site under IE8. Bit more checking to do yet though.

Thanks for the suggestion Malcolm - much appreciated.

How do you unload the blessed thing? I (in my ignorance) thought I was getting an upgrade...not a downgrade that is giving me so much grief. If this is the best that Microsoft can come up with then they deserve to go down the proverbial tubes. It all seems to make a complete nonsense of having a pretty powerful machine that is made to appear very "ordinary" by putting in a so-called "upgrade". BY.

go to your start button (should be bottom left)

Select control panel

click on add/remove programs

after a few seconds / minutes you should be presented with a list , on this list should be Window explorer 8 , click unistall

Might be wise before you do this to have a copy if ie7 or what ever replacement program on your computer ready to load.

I have just finished reloading IE7   as Ie8 was ok but a pain in places..

i have also noticed that on some occasions, I can out type the curser! then have to stop and wait foe each letter to appear, one second at a time.  typing up a 180character response taking around 3 minutes to type up AFTER I have actually STOPPED tapping the keys.

doesn't do it all the time
