The last picture is heartbreaking.

I know you want to sail that beautiful paddle steamer, buddy, but it's not worth it!  Don't put her in that horrible slime!

Most Likely On Behalf Of GMYPBC We Feel The Pain Of You Guys, We're Forever Battling It Ourselves Though Not As Bad As You Guys Have It But Also Our Council Won't Lift A Pinky To Help Us Get Rid Of It We Do All The Work Ourselves With The Public Giving Us The "Death" Glares

The algae has a high percentage coversion factor to "bio diesel".
The council should harvest it and sell it to a bio diesel producer.
At least they could get some park maintenace funds out of it.

We sailed here last month... will probably see it again this weekend.  %%

Basically, there are too many nutrients in the water. This algae/weed rapidly grows and blooms when there's lots of sunshine.  Don't forget that the majority of our boating venues (in UK) are in parks and were constructed - they are artificial and have very shallow 'static' water with only outflow drains to contol/ maintain water levels. In earlier times  it's rumoured that 'elders' of some clubs used to occasionally 'treat' their waters by by adding a 'quantity' of lime. This inexpensive remedy apparently discouraged the 'green stuff' - which is apparently quite 'toxic'  :o when it blooms/colours.  :-)

Do you guys have company's similar to this/www.killlakeweeds.com/ in the UK? Its a shame to see great places to run get overrun by
marine growth. <:(
